Surprisingly, beyond everyone's expectation, the prosecution finally filed an appeal against the acquittal of DSAI.

When everyone thought that 901 will be the point where we all could move on, the appeal shatters our hopes to focus on more pressing issues.

Ah well, that is life. We can only pray to God that what does not kill us will only make us stronger.

I am in the midst of exam season with one paper left. I know I should be studying but the thoughts that I have in mind sometimes need an immediate translation on a piece of writing. So, please bear with me readers, this is another post for this week.

I met some of my MCKK friends last month. I was very glad to see them. Sometimes, you need to run to someone just for a distraction (and that’s what I always do when I desperately need a company.)

I met Fido who came back from Australia for a short break. While I was prepared to see any changes in his character, Fido is still the very same person that I knew since my day one in MCKK (okay, aku tipu, I only got to know him better when he moved in to my dorm from Dorm F ha ha).

As usual, Fido being Fido will ask many questions and I relentlessly answered them with my best answers. He updated me on so many things on what he is doing in Australia and what he plans to do for the next few years.

We even made a point to drive down to Malacca for a day trip. I joked to him that should I go to the UK to study, I would never have a chance to meet him for few years to come as we both have different academic calendar.

I actually never wrote anything about him despite his kindness to me especially during my 2 years stay in Kuala Lumpur, but if you are looking for someone who is perfectionist and hardworking, he will be the one.

I did not say goodbye to him when he went to Australia since I was admitted into a hospital for a minor surgery, but God certainly knew better. We met again last month and I was happy that it was not difficult for us to re-ignite that friendship again.

Good luck Fido. I pray for your success and may you do wonders to the world.

Ada Apa Dengan 901

Life in general is full with drama. We are the actors and our life is the plot that completes a story. For me, the closest thing that depicts what life is all about would be politics. Politics in this country often bring negative connotation. Many people find it dirty, but I suppose that perception is true as it mirrors the state of politics in this country.

My first encounter with something political (so to speak) was Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s first trial. I was 7 year old and barely understood what was going on; what more to understand the charge made against him ( I did ask my mom what the charge meant which she refused to answer). I believe that case sparked my interest in politics. From that day, I constantly read newspaper. I never understood what was reported, but there was one thing that I was always good at; I could remember the names of each minister in the entire Malaysian Cabinet.

I suppose that ‘gift’ remains with me until today. My thirst for more insights in politics grew even more. I watch video, I listen to speeches, I read more books and sometimes I attend political forums.

Many friends asked me about my obsession with politics. I don’t really have a proper explanation for that particular question. I suppose I just love what politics offer to you. If the power is used wisely, we will be able to bring about changes to this nation. Our nation is now at a crossroad. The path that lies ahead offers more challenges than opportunities. Therefore, anyone who posses power must use it for the benefits of the people.

9 January 2012 heralds the new future for Malaysia (at least for me). The unexpected verdict of the second trial of DSAI surprised the nation once more. The tears and cheers on that day testified for hope of many Malaysians that this episode should be the closure for one of the most painful chapters that this nation has ever go through.

I wish to see Malaysian politics to become more matured. Although many are still doubtful with 901’s verdict, but one must continue to become hopeful that one day, this nation shall rise to where it deserves to be.

The Bigger Heart

Like any other ordinary man or woman, new year will be the best time to make a wish list. This is the time when everyone will try to replace what was lost or to replicate dreams to become real.

I was very close to conclude 2011 as “Annus Horribilis”. A series of events that happened for the past one year proved to be quite difficult for me to handle. I actually don’t quite prefer to willlow in self pity, but to do some reflection is a must. Otherwise, we all will stuck in reverse.

Sometimes, I wonder whether the world moves too fast or people just find it easy to move on. But I do feel that my surrounding has changed, the people have moved on and life offers more challenges.

Lessons learnt from 2011 are plenty. The most precious one to me is that one must have a bigger heart than others. You need a bigger heart for you to accept your own failure. You need a bigger heart if you believe in your conviction. You need a bigger heart for you to let go certain things graciously.

2012 opens new horizon. What lies ahead remains uncertain. As for now, it is already half of the month. Time flies these days.

Should the world turn around one more time, would you still be at the same place? If you choose to move on, you need a bigger heart too.

Ada Apa Dengan Universiti

Life in university can be very interesting if you pick the right activity and do things that you like most.

My short observation tells a lot on how life as a university student can be very mundane if you lock yourself in your room and do constant revisions.

Life in university goes beyond books and assignments. It is about constantly challenging your thinking on various issues. This is the right time to view issues from different perspectives as our early education might limit the liberty of our opinions.

I always enjoy my tutorial session especially during constitutional law subject as there is no right and wrong answer for every question. This is the time when my friends will exchange opinions in the most engaging manner. Every idea is supported with evidence and articulated creatively.

The underlying problem of our education system is it is riddled with the old ways of solving problem. The system itself does not inspire students to dream big and think big; only to be bound with what they learnt from books and classes.

Let’s go back to the issue. If you want your university life to be the time of your life, then do something beneficial (and fun).

My First Time

My years as a student were mostly spent as a school debater. Most of the people who come across me would identify me as a debater first, student second.

It crossed my mind sometimes whether I should continue to debate again. At the risk of sounding a bit pompous, everyone was expecting me to debate again as I set my foot in university. I hesitated for a while not to make any important decisions as I also needed a break from everything. Hence, every decision must be made with a thorough consideration.

I have this fear that if I were to repeat anything that I had done in the past, it might lead me to stay in my own comfort zone. The moment that I did not make it to the UK, I know that for every single thing that I’m going to do next, it must be something new and different. Moving on to new frontier often offers you new experience and more importantly, you know where you stand.

In that respect, my recent participation in a moot court competition in University Malaya gave the most valuable lessons of all. It was so refreshing to see myself back in the same business again albeit it was in a different setting and the competition itself demands more hard work and expectations from the participants.

I had problems in the beginning to make myself comfortable with the team. I was taught since day one that chemistry among team members plays huge role in determining the success of any teams. That was my first time having non-Malays team members fighting alongside me in a competition (see, it doesn’t take a hollow slogan to unite us the Malaysians). That was my first time went against participants who spoke better English than me. That was my first time being judged by law lecturers and practicing lawyers who constantly asked tough questions in every single minute of my oral submission.

We did not make it, but it was such a great deal to me as my encounter with this “new thing” reinforces my belief to keep doing new things although I may not be that good early on. At the end of the day, it is the journey that matters and not the destination. I learnt many important lessons, the same way I did during my debating years.

And remember, practice makes perfect (and our FIRST TIME is always ADDICTIVE ha ha)

Kita Hanya Merancang, Tuhan Yang Menentukan

I used to write cards or letters for my friends each time they faced difficulties in life. I found it very easy for me to pen down my thought asking my friends to remain calm or steadfast-in short, “don’t worry, everything is going to be fine”.

However, when the similar event took place in one of the most important part in my life, I could not find the right response to calm myself. A month ago, my A-levels results were announced and unfortunately, I did not make the grades.

Sometimes, it took us to experience a real life scenario for us to understand certain things. People often say that their lives took a different turn whenever something unplanned occurred along the journey. I suppose my case is also the same. Each time I look at the clock, I wonder what is left for me. I wonder what went wrong and I cannot avoid but to question why I was given such test.

I would not go into details of what really happened. Suffice to say that I did not make the grades. Most of my friends are already in a foreign land, preparing for the exciting moment of meeting new friends, exploring the unknowns and more importantly, they can now see the world.

I know that this may sound like self-pity, but I am also a human being and I cannot run away from the feeling of disappointment and frustration; we are not immune from such feelings. I am lucky to have my parents around since they are very supportive. But that is where it breaks my heart so much when I knew they were hoping something good came up from me.

I can go on and on lamenting the past, but nothing is going to change. One can only reflect and only then, we can move on. As cliché as it sounds, things happen for a reason. I hope one day the lessons will reveal themselves and the moment they did, my heart and mind are ready to embrace changes and embark on another journey.

Courage is found in unlikely places. I think I have found mine and it is found in the most unlikely place. May the stars shine upon the end of my road!

Ramadhan 1

Ramadhan is going fine so far for me. I have just realised that this will be the first Ramadhan when I am going to be with my family for the whole month! Looking back, since 2004, my Ramadhan was mostly spent with my MCKK friends.

My last Ramadhan was even more interesting since I decided to do internship for 3 weeks in KL. Having iftar alone was hard in the beginning but after a while, I got used to it. Thus, to spend my entire Ramadhan with the family would definitely bring a different experience altogether.

We have been fasting for 5 days and back here, I notice my grandparents easily get tired after doing some works. My grandmother sometimes skips her fasting since she has to take her medication.

I was also asked by my aunt a few times to send my grandfather to a clinic each time he had problems with his knee. I used to remember how strong and active he was during those days and during this time, he will never miss to bring me to iftar at his favourite restaurant. Now, things have changed so much. It’s no longer him to drive me around but now I take the responsibility to take a good care on him (yet there were times when he refused my help).

To put things in perspective, I think we take a lot of things for granted sometimes. I have always thought that my grandparents can always prepare my favourite meal each time the whole family gathers for iftar. Now, with the latest development, I doubt the same thing would happen again.

Despite staying close to the family, there are so many things that bother me right now. I think I just need to get them out of my chest quickly. I hope with full blessings of Ramadhan, everything will be just fine.

Remembering Ben: A Tribute to Allahyarham Adlan Benan Omar (1973-2008)

Allahyarham Adlan Benan Omar was chairman of the founding committee of the United Kingdom Executive Council for Malaysian Students (today known as the United Kingdom and Eire Council of Malaysian Students, or UKEC) in 1994. He studied at Bukit Bintang Boys Secondary School in Petaling Jaya, Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) in Perak, the MARA Institute of Technology, Subang Jaya and pursued his A Levels at Abingdon School, Oxfordshire. He then read History and Law at Jesus College at the University of Cambridge, and graduated in 1997. He passed away at the age of 35 on 24 January 2008.

Larger than life, in both a metaphorical and physical sense, are words often chosen to describe Ben by those who have had the fortune of knowing him. Ben was big in practically every sense of the word. Many likened him to a shooting star, bright and brilliant, but sadly, short-lived.

Ben evidently touched many lives during his time. Search engine results reveal several entries written about Ben. Many stories about him revolve around his wealth of knowledge on a multitude of topics, and occasionally highlight what he envisaged for the future. Most importantly, they also reflected on his enormous capacity for caring.

Those who were close to him knew that Ben had a bigger heart than most people. He would never think twice about investing in someone he met along his journey. Both of us have had the privilege of being coached by Ben in debate when we were studying at Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), Perak.

Abang Ben (which is what we called him) never emphasised on winning. He constantly pushed his boys to present a matured argument and to be magnanimous each time they faced opponents. Ben was one of a kind – he was never just a debate coach. He was always a friend, and would not hesitate in sending books from overseas (where he was) to those he coached.

Ben’s intelligence inspired a hunger for knowledge amongst the debaters he coached. If anyone had a question about anything under the sun, the best person to ask for an answer was Ben. He was truly a walking encyclopaedia, and was always willing to share his seemingly limitless. A captivating orator, he could effortlessly capture anyone’s attention – every session we spent with him would be interesting. Ben was also a patient teacher, and would always find time to spare to patiently explain any issues we weren’t sure of, even if he had to make expensive phone calls from overseas to do so.

Many people at his age might not have had the patience to deal with those younger than them (especially teenage boys in their formative but immature years), but Ben never saw it as a barrier in engaging the younger generation. He was never a patronizing presence - he would always make the effort to communicate with the young students he knew so as to impart the right knowledge and values upon them. He felt like one of us, like a fellow student you could turn to and rely on for help.

Ben was larger than life not only because of his unrivalled intellect and charisma, but also because his kindness. He firmly believed in giving back to society, and his belief always showed itself through his actions. Ben was ever ready to take the lead in approaching a stranger and taking his hand to guide them and to thus help them develop their true potential.

Even when his health was deteriorating, Ben still came back to MCKK to see those he had coached, even though he knew that his days were already numbered. To us, that was the most inspiring thing about Ben: that other people always come first, even if it was at his own expense.

We hope that Ben would have been proud to see how the organization he founded has grown and developed since its inception. More importantly, we hope that people will always remember that nothing is truly impossible, if one puts endless passion and commitment just as Ben did in the past, up until his last breath. To us, he would have been a classic example for the next generation to look up for each time they plunge into something big and adventurous.

Words alone will never be enough to truly capture and portray the magnitude of character that Ben possessed, but we have tried our very best to tell you the story of the man who started it all, and who we have been blessed to know personally.

Thank you, Ben. We will always remember you.

Projek Kalsom 17

And so I went.

I spent five days in Sungai Udang, Melaka for Projek Kalsom 17. I could choose not to attend the event, yet I was undecided as well since I would have nothing to do if I decided to go back straight to Penang right after my BTN programme.

I had no expectation neither a real purpose of going to Projek Kalsom. But I had decided earlier on to see how it was run and how it is going to affect the participants (and more importantly the facilitators, hence it’s more like observation mission).

So, what was the result? Well, it was such a good experience to see these underprivileged children came together and decided to change for a better. They made a promise that they would work harder in anything they pursue and would never let excuses to stand in their way to success. I was afraid in the beginning to give advices on so many things as I have not even started my first year yet compared to other facilitators (yes, I was one of the youngest facilitators at the camp).

When I gave tips or advices to the kids, I think that is somehow a reminder to me to do better and achieve more in the future. If you want to fill in that position of trying to inspire a bunch of strangers, you must first start doing things that you have preached to the kids. Only then, you deserve to give “lecture” on how to do certain things in life.

During the five days programme, I made many new friends. Some of them study in States, Japan (and of course there are some who study in the UK). Even those who study in local universities also came to extend help to these 16 years old kids. I was so touched to see my new non-Malay friends spoke in front of majority Malay kids on how to get scholarships and the preparation of post SPM result. I am sure this kind of occasion is rare to be seen especially in the rural areas. I think the message is clear; that the time has come for all of us to help each other regardless what race we are and from where we come.

I would love to share more but I believe that some of my observations of the camp shall be kept only to myself for my own personal reflection. All in all, Projek Kalsom 17 has successfully brought people from different places and background to come together for one goal.

What was the goal? Well, it is up those who attended to decide for themselves.

Time flies fast. Yes, very fast. The truth is, I am not quite sure what to write here. Well, the moment you stop writing, it would be quite hard even to produce a simple summary of what you did for the past two months.

To make things simple, my final exam will begin on 20 May and end on 23 June. It will be a month of hardwork, focus and constant prayer.

Then, come July and August, I just hope (and pray) things will get better.

Sembang-sembang di Kedai Mamak

To have a discussion at kedai mamak over a teh tarik often offers you the chance to put things in perspectives in a rather simpler way without to impress anyone else. It’s sometimes interesting to find out that the outcomes from the discussion are a lot more matured and very thought provoking.

Our society has somehow drifted away from the idea of engaging in public discourse due to the fear of being trumped by those who are cleverer than them.

But I think, the culture is slowly coming back (not that I lived in the past to witness all this). We now have more platforms to express our ideas and engage with the public in various public forums.

To build a society which is governed by the idea of wisdom and knowledge is not easy. It may take ages to realise that.

Blogging for the Dummies: How to get 60 posts within a year

I have been thinking for the whole night to find tricks on how to get 60 posts within a year. There are some ideas (most of them are rubbish anyway ha ha) but I think it should not be too hard to post something here because blog is always your running thought. As long as you have something to say, the next thing you have to figure out is only when and how to put it in words.

So yeah, this will be my mantra for the next 9 months "Blogging tu tak salah, tapi kalau blog secara tidak konsisten tu yang salah, sabor je lah."

Saya Sudah Tua

I celebrated my 20th birthday on 6th February 2011. At one point, I did not believe that I have finally reached that stage, a stage where I can no longer indulge to be called as a teenager. Being 20 years old means a lot to me especially when it marks a very significant point in my life. As you grow older, you cannot avoid but to to question so many things about what you did in the past and what is your plan for the future.

Kek tahun lepas ha ha

I stopped asking these questions a few times as I was afraid to provide the answer for every question. Some questions like "Have I done enough to improve myself?" or "Am I going to mend the mistakes that I made in the past?' keep lingering in my head. But, we must be honest with ourselves. We must be bold in making our own self evaluation because that's the only way to move forward. Some people are lucky if they have someone to remind them constantly, but in most cases people choose to become ignorant hence the real judges are always us.

I value my 20 years of wonderful journey with utter gratefulness as I feel so blessed. I am granted with a great health (but 3 minggu lepas baru underwent a surgery ha ha), my parents are still around showering me with their unconditional love and I have the best companions in the world. What more can I ask when there are a bunch of people who will always extend the greatest help in the midst of my most trying time.

Time will tell what I have become after all the explorations that I have made in the world full of unknowns. Time will tell what I have become after all the mistakes that I have made in exchange of a truly great adventure. Therefore, we all shall wait.

The 17 Hours

I have not posted anything since the last post in January. After I had proudly announced earlier that I would try to post 60 posts, I am now beginning to doubt that mission.

With Am, Ungku and Lutfi

My brief absence was partly because I had a surgery in the middle of February. I was diagnosed of having an ‘Acute Appendicitis’, hence a quick surgery was the top most priority. I requested for a transfer to a hospital in Penang, but the doctor insisted to do it in KL. Before I realized, the longest 17 hours in my life had just started.

I was admitted into the hospital late at night. While waiting for the nurse to conduct the further check up, the news began to travel and alarm so many people. I received many SMSes asking about my condition which encapsulated the sense of worrisome and nervousness. I tried to suppress a smile when reading the prayers and wishes hoping to conceal my own fear.

I woke up at 6 in the morning only to realise that the nurse was already waiting for me with a wheelchair. She brought me to Ward 7 and asked me to change my cloth. Then, I waited and hoped it would end very soon.

The surgery began at three o’clock and fortunately, Rashad was there to send me off to the operation room. Honestly, I was very afraid. For once, everything looked very uncertain to me. People often said that it’s just a minor surgery, but my mind can’t avoid but to contemplate on so many things at one time.

Would I be able to regain my consciousness after the surgery? Would I be able to come back and see everyone else? My mind went wandering for a while and after that, I did not remember anything.

2 hours later, I woke up and felt so weak. I could not find my voice but the moment I saw the lights, I knew it was all over. My doctor came to me and the first thing I said to her was “How was the surgery doctor?” and she replied “Your surgery went successfully.”

At this point, I still could not believe that it actually happened to me. The experience was great; I think it is a little test that everyone has to go through in life. I would say it’s a significant event that has put so many things in perspective.

I thank God for blessing me with friends and companions who extend the greatest help without asking anything in return. The endless visits from MCKK’s friends, college’s friends and even a family really touched my heart. Thank you very much for being there when I was in desperate need of calmness and assurance that everything will be just fine. Thank you very much for your kindness, I can only express my appreciation in words.

Now I am back in business and preparing for the final race.

Ha ha I am not that 'kiasu' to meet my KPI to a point that I make an effort to blog late at night. The truth is, I can't sleep. After enduring such a boring journey for almost 3 hours from KL to Penang, I somehow found it a bit hard to sleep , hence why I am writing this post.

I will be in Penang for one week and I have already planned what to do for the next one week. There are nothing special; I suppose the 'plan' is just a normal one like try to waking up early and go jogging, or maybe just finish up reading my Harry Potter ( I am still stuck at the 5th book-thanks to my exam ha ha).

But, one thing for sure, I will be having a good time playing with a cute little baby throughout the week. My mom has agreed to take care one of my cousins, so yeah, I will be having a good time cuddling the baby.

The whole family is still adjusting since there has not been any baby for quite a while in the house (I am not implying anything about family planning, pregnancy,productivity ha ha), so everyone is really looking forward to give our best shot in taking care this baby.

Okay, now I am feeling tired. Got to sleep now lest I will be staring at my wall for the next one hour. Good night!

Enam Puluh!

In the beginning of 2011, I have constantly told myself that I should blog more.

In the spirit of reinforcing my new resolution, one cannot avoid but to set an achievable target for him to meet.

Therefore, here I am putting my very own KPI that I shall write 60 posts for 2011.

While this mission is nothing compared to Mission Impossible 1, 2 or 3 (or G.I Joe-ha ha can’t avoid this, it’s my favourite), the only way to survive is by acquiring the multitasking skill as soon as possible (some people dislike the term ‘multitasking’ because it means more works and more energy).

Therefore, if it seems to you that the target is no longer achievable, you are all welcome to constantly remind me by putting some nice and not too nice comments here.

Yeah, it’s 60. It’s just not only a number, but it’s also my plan and goal (cewaaaah)!

Abang Ben

This is the first post for 2011. I rarely updated my blog lately since I am busy with the examination. I have one subject left and after that, I am done.

I am taking this extra little time to write about someone who was very special to me. He passed away 3 years ago, thus leaving such a big vacuum to many people who were very close to him. His kindness was a thing in the past, yet many people would remember him as one of the greatest men they have ever encountered throughout their entire generation.

Abang Ben passed away in 2008. He was my coach. He was the one who coached me since I was 14 years old. When I was 13, I met him first during Pesta Piala Perdana Menteri (PPM) in Kangar, Perlis. While I spent most of my times listening to the discussion, he would take my notebook and draw a cute little piglet on it.

While I was trying very hard to understand the sophisticated lingo and terms used in every discussion, he sat next to me and continued to talk about Sejarah Raja-raja Melayu (particularly about Royal family of Perlis since we were in Perlis) for endless hours.

I can’t avoid but to ask myself a question, “Who is this guy?”

Growing up in MCKK also means getting maximum exposure on many things. While others found it in sports, I found in debate. During my first competition, Abang Ben was my coach (since Abang Raf was busy with the senior team). His role at that was time was to provide us with a variety of facts that many of us had never heard before (ha ha and that was due to my lack of reading!).

Izzat was also there to assist the team. Together with Abang Ben, we sailed to next round with full confidence because we knew that behind our back was the real ‘walking encyclopedia’. While others were making so much noise asking relevant facts from their huge files, my team enjoyed the luxury of having facts instantaneously coming from him.

It was because of him, I had my first taste of winning. When I won a debate competition in 2007, I was very sad because he was not there. I wished he was there to see us crying for us to finally understand how it felt when the justice was finally delivered to us. I wished he was there to smile with us and look at each other with full pride and fondness.

I had many regrets while knowing him for almost five years since I did not do much to show my appreciation for all the kindness that he showered us. I had never sent him any ‘Thank You’ or ‘Happy Birthday’ card despite me being the closest to him.

He never failed to call me late at night just to check how I was doing or how I was coping with the team. We spoke on so many things and again he never failed to impress me with his unparalleled intelligence.

I take this opportunity to write something about him as I am afraid that my memory will fail me sometime later. As time passes by, our focus keeps changing from one to another. As we are easily trapped in a mundane life as we grow older, we too tend to forget those who are very important in our life.

If he was still around, I would love to have a long chat with him sharing my stories. I have a lot to tell him about my A-Levels, the books that I love to read and catching up with the latest issues and gossips. But that is life, when he or she is no longer around, then the ‘what ifs’ start to haunt us.

I shall write more about him in the future. Let me revisit those years with the same good feeling that used to hit me five years ago, so that the story would stay as it is.

My New Found Love!

Problems would arise once you get obsessed with a new thing. That is my case now. Despite having a big exam within 2 weeks time, it seems that I cannot get rid that one masterpiece which is my new found love- HARRY POTTER!

I know that I started very late. I understand that now the focus has shifted to the final installment of the last book. But, for me, it is better late than never. It is good actually to anticipate what's next in every chapter which full of surprises and magic!

I think there are a few reasons why I like the book. I know the whole setting takes place in a magical world, a place that do not exist. But all the characters and their lives are so much like us, the normal human beings. There is only one difference; they are all wizards and witches (and yes they have their own wand).

That is the beauty of living in an environment where your friends are an avid reader. They know what are the good books and what are not.

And you know, since you cannot afford to stand quietly looking at your friends talking about the movie and you have no idea what it is all about, then you start to do the smart thing.

What did I do? What I did was to pick up the first book and went through every chapter with great patience. As how much Harry likes the idea of Hogwarts, me too found the idea of Rowling creating her own world in all seven books is brilliant and genius.

Now, please allow me to Apparate. I need to finish the fourth book.

Hiatus (hahy-ey-tuhs)

PMR’s result was announced last Thursday. This time, the air was filled with great jubilance and excitement as it was the best achievement so far after four years. PMR although is just another exam but the magnitude of it has never failed to make students to work hard for it. It is an assessment of three years of learning and therefore it reflects the students’ performance in every subject.

The stories of students who get good results often featured in our local dailies. It is normal for them to report such news as our people love to hear stories which bring out the source of inspiration and happiness ( I know I should not assume ).

But sometimes, we must also have the responsibilities to share stories which fail to get into the list. In this context, I would love to share a story regarding one boy who is very hardworking and knows what he wants, but there is a twist here. Despite all the hard work, he failed to get a good result.

I tutored this boy during my long break after SPM. He always asked questions and ways how to improve himself. But, his preparation for PMR started a bit late. But I understand why it happened. I suppose he did not have a good support system to guide him how to study effectively. I too can’t help that much as most of my advices were given through telephone conversations and some SMSes.

In fact, a few days before the exam started, he kept calling me complaining that he was so nervous and did not have the confidence to face the exam.

At the end, he did not get the result that he wanted. Luckily, he did not fail any subject. Observing from this side, I am pretty sure that he actually achieved something. He may not get a good result but the efforts and determination to pursue his own dream should be lauded.

And in fighting a battle, we cannot win all. But at least, we know that we lose in the knowledge that we have done our best. What matters most is the perseverance during that journey.

I assure you that this boy will come back again with full confidence and courage to achieve his dream. His mistake was that he started late, but given so much time ahead, I believe he will achieve something that we all can be proud of in the future.

The Importance of Being Talented (and to be Discovered and Nurtured)

Last Thursday, I had the privilege to attend and watch a play entitled, ‘The Irony of Matrimony’. It was successfully staged for 3 days starting from 8^_10 December 2011. I really enjoyed the play simply because it was fun and hilarious. The cast did a really good job.

But the play is not main thing to be discussed here. I was smiling while watching the play because I was happy that my friends on the stage managed to unleash their real talent; a thing that we don’t even know that we have until someone comes and discovers it for us.

Being talented alone is not enough. We must have someone to discover and nurture it for us. I am glad that the three combinations were so apparent throughout the whole running of the production.

While the usual convention expects these young minds to sit alone in their rooms and study, I believe that the whole production was a medium of learning too albeit it is viewed from a different perspective. I believe that the whole process was a lot more meaningful as the knowledge gained cannot be found in any textbook.

This post is rather short and simple, yet it reminds us about the need to discover and nurture those young minds who are hungry for new knowledge and challenge.

A play or a drama is just a medium. As long as we extend our most sincere help to those talented strangers, I am quite sure that our world will become more colourful.

The Last Sunday in October

I spent the last Sunday with Rashad and Fido in Shah Alam. We did thing which was quite rare to do especially on Sunday as we decided to study at Uitm Library. It was a great time spent as we managed to spend our time wisely to study and do some revision. While Rashad was preparing for his trial exam, Fido was busy with his final preparation for A2 exam.

That morning greeted us with a great surprise. Our good friend, Haqa (Sdr. Farquar Haqqani) was elected as a new UKEC chairman. During the breakfast, the euphoric moment filled the air. We can’t stop talking how Haqa would address the crowd during the next MSLS (Malaysian Student Leaders Summit) or how he would shape the future direction of UKEC.

But that was not really the ultimate thing that we discussed. We were a lot happier simply because UKEC was founded by our debating master, Allahyarham Adlan Benan Omar. We were happy because Haqa who was once coached by two ex-chairmen of UKEC finally took the helm of the organization.

To finally see our good friend making a small step yet a very significant one means a lot to us (at least to me). The day spent with Rashad and Fido actually marks how the time has quickly passed and may overtake us one day.

In the library, I took some time to reflect how things have changed so much with each one of us now has different priority in life. Although we aim for different things, I always pray that we begin the journey with a right intention and purpose.

I wish Rashad and Fido would give their best shot in anything they do in life. I wish exactly the same thing for me and the same goes to Haqa too. It is such a great privilege to have you around and I must admit here that you are such a talented and clever boy. Those talents should not be wasted as you are capable to do many great things in the future.

And during that particular day too, I just could not stop smiling. It might be a sign of many wonderful things to come hopefully in the near future.

Ada Apa dengan 1 Malaysia?

1 Malaysia has been used widely for the purpose of uniting Malaysians coming from all walks of life. Many believe that this is just a political gimmick from the ruling government and therefore it has invoked criticisms and debates from certain quarters. Many Malaysians are still not sure with the direction of 1 Malaysia although the idea of it has somehow prepared us to look forward for a better Malaysia.

I think I am not the right person to view this concept. I am not a politician or academician or historian in order to explain how a slogan can unite a country.

However, I can provide my own version of 1 Malaysia based on my experience so far in my college.

My college is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Being a recipient of government scholarship, you are expected to produce good results all the time and perform better than other students (and so far my performance has not been very consistent!).

Here is also the beginning of me having friends from different races. I used to live in that kind of environment when I was in a primary school, but left that life completely once I studied in MCKK. Thus, this whole new experience is such an eye opener for me and of course I had to make some adjustments as well.

I am so blessed to have an Indian friend from Sarawak, some Chinese friends from Sabah and a few more from Semenanjung. When we first entered the college, some of us preferred to stay in our own clique. I did the same thing too. Well, I feel some people tend to do that as they like to live in their own comfort zone. Studying with a friend of the same race is a lot easier as you know his language and culture better. Therefore, you don’t have to make an extra effort to know about other people.

I think that is where we go wrong. We isolate ourselves from the idea of engaging with others without realizing that we are actually putting a risk of having a racial segregation.

That is why I feel I am very fortunate because here in my college, things have changed so much. I have witnessed so many good souls of my Indian and Chinese friends lending their hand to their Malay friends when it comes to study. I have also seen my Malay friends roping their Chinese friends in to play football when the latter are a lot more interested in basketball.

It touches my heart because some of them had never had a friend from other races. Hence, a quick adjustment and tolerance from them are something that I am very proud of. These experiences so far are the living proofs that unity among us is not impossible. It proves to us that understanding others is not difficult. It is not a rocket science where we need a special formula.

It is only difficult when we refuse to listen to their stories or when we stop seeing others’ problem as ours. It is only difficult when we prefer to stay in our own cocoon and start asking others to solve our problems when others strive for something impossible.

As my conclusion for “Ada Apa dengan 1 Malaysia”, I plead for one thing. Please do not corrupt our young souls and good hearts. We are all happy here and please leave us alone.

It is in the vegetative state

I know I keep posting less articles from time to time. I have purely no excuses for that. It is partly because I am a bit tied with homework, studies and university application

But, the moment I start giving excuses as mentioned above, I think that is very alarming. It is simply because that shows you are slowly losing the multitasking skills which is very important if you plan to accomplish many things within a fixed time period.

Therefore, I need to reinforce the message why I decided to become a blogger. It is because I want to improve my English ( I hope it is getting better) and more importantly I want to write well. But, how can you become a good writer when you keep posting less articles?

This might be the shortest article ever written for this blog. Nevertheless, it is good to start somewhere I think.

Many stories and issues I want to comment on. Have no worry, I will get back to you soon.

Aidilfitri 2010- Reflection

Hari Raya is getting more mundane year in year out. This year, I had the same feeling too. I can't provide the real reason behind this, but I guess that feeling is normal as you are getting older.

Hari Raya now is more like a time to catch up with the family members, relatives and friends.

I think the children will enjoy it more as they can still receive duit raya while it is a headache for the adults to prepare the money.

This year, the whole nation is shocked with the murder of Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya. The crime committed is totally unacceptable especially when everyone is celebrating Aidilfitri.

I have no idea why we have come to this stage. It is a question that everyone must try to answer. The news surprised us as we always thought that this country is safe.

The murder betrays the spirit of Aidilfitri because everyone should be spending their times with the beloved ones during this meaningful day.

Talking about the beloved ones, I managed to spend a quality time with my parents, brothers and friends. I love Aidilfitri as that is the time when I seek forgiveness from my parents for all my wrongdoings. I love them so much as they give me their trust to do things on my own.

There were many times when I made a decision without much interference from my parents. I respect them for that because that is the sign of full trust given by them for me to explore the unknowns.

Trust is important because it is also a sign of confidence. You trust someone because you are confident that he or she will live up to your expectation. But trust is not a thing that you can buy, trust needs to be earn.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin. We are all human beings, and therefore we are not perfect. But, we can improve ourselves to become a good person. God loves those who want to improve themselves because that is the sign of not giving up easily with our own inadequacies as a human being.

Teachers in Politics

The government’s decision to allow teachers to participate actively in politics has invoked criticisms and debates. Certain quarters believe that it would help to shape a better political landscape as their ideas can be channelled for the greater good of Malaysians. It is highly hoped that Malaysian politics will grow more mature through their brilliant ideas pertaining to nation building.

Teachers are important in the education system. Their roles to educate our students are vital in making sure talented Malaysians are born in different fields and arena. Based on this notion, I humbly believe that teachers should stay away from politics simply because their roles in education are more crucial than others.

The Malaysian education system has been plagued with various controversial issues. We are always in a dilemma when facing the question on how to produce excellent students. Various ideas have been laid out before us, yet we tend to hesitate in deciding what is best for our students.

As a student, I want my teachers to continue teaching in class and provide us with the joy of learning. I want them to share my happiest moments and guide me when I stray too far from the path that I have taken. I want my teachers to continuously inspire me to dream big and pursue my goal single-mindedly.

In my opinion, teachers should stay away from politics simply because they are good at teaching.

Teaching is part of national service because it helps to nurture the younger generation who will eventually bring this nation to greater heights. However, the reality seems different and much more complicated. Our teachers are now given so much work to accomplish at any one time. We often heard of teachers complaining about their work load and they tend to lose focus on their sole duty of teaching.

Politics could be fun and challenging. But from what I have read in the newspaper, politics could be messy too. There are plenty of examples of internal bickering and party-hopping. The complication trickles down to various levels and this created negative perception on politics.

My question is, if teachers were to enter politics, how would they plan and prioritize between school and politics?

Multitasking could be good but I do not think politics and school are a good combination.

The teachers’ union also welcomed the move as the voice of teachers could now being heard at a higher level. But I personally feel that what they need is a strong union where their presence could no longer be ignored.

Teachers must go all out in pursuing the much needed reforms for the Malaysian education system like what the lawyers did when it comes to the issue of justice and human rights.

Teachers know better about what is not right with the system.

They do not need a political platform as what matters more is the collective decisions from the teachers in pushing reforms for the sake of students’ future.

While many professionals are now making their ways into politics, I believe that teachers should not do the same.

They have bigger things to do rather than getting involved in politics which could get murky from time to time.

It is better for the teachers to equip themselves with new knowledge and skills to nurture students who have vast potentials.

Hence, the teachers need the right knowledge and value in order to discharge their duties effectively.

For the time being, let us leave politics to the politicians.

That is their job. That is what they are paid for. They have to serve us, the rakyat.

How about the teachers? Well, they are here to educate us, the rakyat.

What to blog?

1. I should put more posts especially now I have a full access to the Internet.

2. I am now doing an attachment programme at one legal firm in Kuala Lumpur. I was supposed to have three weeks of break but I decided to do an internship in KL instead of Penang. My parents were okay with the idea. Their concern was only on one thing, "Sapa nak prepare sahur and bukak puasa"?

3. I think I should give a summary on what I did on my first day of internship. So where do I start? Well, I came to the office around 8.45 am and I was brought to see Madam Rita. After that, I started my so called 'sesi main politik' by introducing myself to all the partners, senior staffs and students who do chambering.

4. My first day was a bit boring as not many works were given to me. So, I spent the whole day reading the company's profile, talking to the staffs and went out for a lunch with my new colleagues. Sitting with someone who is ten or six years older than me made me felt a bit awkward and strange. After all, I am the youngest in the company.

5. But, that is part and parcel of working with different people in a different environment. I think if we are put in a surrounding which is alien to us, chances are we would learn things quicker than other people.

6. My first assignment of the day was to do research on a few topics. My problem was that I had zero knowledge about certain topics. So what I did was to start from scratch. I tried to understand the topics first, only then I did my research.

All in all, it was an eye opener for me about the whole idea of working environment. Staying alone without friends and family members is not easy. Ha ha the walls in my small room are already driving me crazy!

To read or not to read?

I have just picked a new book for my latest reading. It is about America from the Age of Discovery to a world at war. The book is really thick and only God knows how long would it take for me to finish reading it.

I must admit here that I am not an avid reader. I am not like other people who read Charles Dickens’s books at the age of seven! I acquired this habit of reading only when I entered college (and this was a year ago!).

I have friends who have read different books from different genres. Their knowledge about world history is just in their heads. They can easily argue about different masterpiece of literature works while I just sat at one corner trying hard to understand their arguments.

At one point, I realised that it was my mistake for not to take an early initiative. I should have started reading since I was in MCKK. I should have saved some of my allowances to buy books from any nearest bookstore. Or I should have just borrowed some books from the library.

There is only one underlying reason for my problem. At one point, I chose to become ignorant about the world outside. I was so sure that ignorant is bliss while actually it is entirely not true.

Why it is very important for us to read? It is because through reading, it is the most effective way in giving you new knowledge, information and facts.

It is also true that a socio-economic background of individuals may determine whether one can become an avid reader or not.

It is a simple argument that those who come from rich families can afford to buy more books since books are quite expensive.

Thus, in term of access to knowledge, they have a better one compared to those who live in the middle class. The rich parents give more encouragement to their children by buying them books since they were young. In other perspective, the children are given more opportunities simply because they have the capacity to do it.

However, given the reason above, it should not stop those who cannot afford to buy books to stop reading. There are many other alternatives (the ones that I have mentioned earlier). The only question is ‘do you have the drive to do it?

Do I have the drive? Well, for the time being let me answer it by saying ‘yes’. I do have the will which constantly keeps me in touch with the books.

Knowledge is powerful to a point that it can change the world. So, let us begin with a simple step. Reading is not an obligation but it is a vehicle which will take you into an unknown adventure through an ocean of words, ink and paper.

MERAKYATKAN PERLEMBAGAAN

That f****** 4 letters word

When we talk about love, a few things like roses, chocolates or teddy bears would start to appear in mind. It is a very cliché thought but that is what millions of people on Earth feel about it.

I had a good discussion with my English Literature lecturer, Madam Caroline regarding one poem entitled ‘First Love’ written by Mick Gowar.

During the discussion, she asked a very simple question, ‘What do you understand about love?’ Everyone was quiet. That question really stunned me because for once I had a numb tongue. A very simple question yet most of us failed to provide a very convincing answer.

Hence, why there is love in the first place when most of us cannot even define it properly? Of course those who are in love would sound very mushy.

They would say it is a mutual feeling. Their hearts stop beating once he or she is not there (yeah right ha ha!).

If the power of love is so great, then why people easily move on when the relationship is not working well?

It is a chicken and egg question. I have no answer for that question too.

We grow up in a society which is so much misled by a few obscure concepts of life. At one point, we just follow blindly what the society has set for us.

So based on what the love is built? If you don’t have the answer, have no worry, I don’t have the answer too.

But one thing for sure, our parent’s love is purely unconditional. They have loved us since we were young. Their feeling would not fade although we face personal hiccups in life. I think that is entirely true. That is what we call love. But that is completely out of topic for my latest post.

Ha ha so, when some of your friends are desperately looking for a girlfriend or boyfriend, I think that is very dangerous.

That emotional fulfilment might be needed due to the rush of hormones which keep increasing from time to time. Or maybe they just want to look perfectly fine or normal in the eyes of society by having a so called ‘soul mate’.

Then, you can ask them the same question that I asked you. Let’s see whether they know the answer.

P/S: This is not an attempt to develop the sentiment of anti-Valentine’s Day.

Good Luck Aslam!

Aslam bin Abd Jalil (Class of 2007) received a JPA scholarship to read Economics in Australia National University. He was the captain of MCKK Debating Team in 2007.

Aslam’story was written in a different way. He pursued his dream through a path which was less taken by other people.

His SPM result was not really good. Instead of taking the same conventional route like what his peers did, Aslam chose to do something different.

He went on to do Form Six. Living far from his close friends, he lived in an environment which was completely alien to him. The setting of the school was not the same as the one he used to live in for almost five years.

But, I think Aslam knows what he wants. Knowing him since our days in the school debating team, I would say Aslam is a person who is very focus in achieving his goals. This was the guy who liked to force Aleng and I to smile in every single debate (Aslam was really popular with his winning smile).

This was the guy who used to fake his own smile although he knew we were on the losing side. He believed that fighting spirit and confidence were really important if you wanted to win.

This was the guy who would always check his name before the debate started just to make sure it was spelled correctly. He would not accept any kind of ASLAM ABDUL JALIL. Only ASLAM ABD JALIL was allowed to be written on the board.

He has a great patience. There were times when we did not agree to each other. Sometimes, I raised my voice whenever there were some disagreements over a few matters. But, he never tried to alienate me or took me out of the team. He worked with us. He inspired me sometimes because he had the stamina to do a few things that I could not do. I must thank him for all that.

I was happy that we finally won the Interschool Debating Championship in 2007. That would be the best prize ever for him for being the captain who was focus and very talented.

And, now, just like others, Aslam has finally left the room. I wish him all the best. May he achieve what he wants and he continues to make difference to the world.

Good luck Aslam! You will do well!

Reflection

It has been a year since I began my new phase of life in Kuala Lumpur. This phase has been treating me well so far. I have another year to finish before I embark on another journey. It has been a year and I never took a chance to sit back and contemplate about what have had happened for the past one year.

Speaking of A-levels, I really pushed myself beyond my own limits (I hope so). For someone who obtained a not really good SPM result, it means that I have to double my work. Mediocrity should never exist in my dictionary. Otherwise, a bleak future awaits me.

I view my next one year as the most critical one. Within less than six months, I will turn 20. Yeah, it is just a matter of age, but for me, getting older means I must seek for more accomplishments.

I view my next one year as a time to position myself in a prospect which would benefit me in the long run. I would try to do whatever it takes in making sure that my life is different from others.

Thank you very much to those who hold my hands in getting through this. I must admit that without them, I may lose my way and stray very far from the path that I have taken.

In case, I lose the sight of the bigger picture, please remind me. I am just a normal human being just like you. Sometimes, I need help as well.

Amigos Para Siempre

I went out with Ungku and Anas for a short catch up. We watched movie and had dinner together. Ungku joined us later during the dinner.

Anas had just finished with A-levels exam while Ungku still has one week left before he enters UM again to further his study in manufacturing engineering (sempat lah aku tanya overview about the course).

Well, I was not really close to Ungku or Anas during our koleq’s life. Ungku was busy with his cricket team (and Big School’s affairs ha ha) while Anas liked to read his Manga comics during games hour.

I was busy with college activities and spent most of my times at Pavilion (not that aku mencari jambu, but I was put there to look after a bunch of Form Three students).

So yeah, I did not have a chance to get well acquainted with both of them or at least try to understand their world.

But once we were out from koleq, there is no more the strange feeling of sitting together. At one point, we forget that there was once a barrier which hindered us from uttering even a single word.

I think people do change and experiences gained help us to mature. Although we are destined for different purposes and places, these differences seem indifferent when we meet.

P/S: I am not a sentimental freak, but aku nak update blog saja he he.

Government scholarships

Our government has decided to scrap the number of scholarships given to those who want to pursue undergraduate studies overseas. There are two main reasons which prompted government to take this measure. Firstly, the government is facing financial constraint since the number of bright students keeps growing each year. Secondly, they wanted to improve the standard of local universities which also will help in resolving the issue of brain drain.

I have no idea about how much we have been funding our students every year, but they definitely would not simply come out with this unpopular decision. They might have done a thorough research in reaching this decision, so their calculation might be true. But how can we view by funding a group of bright students can be considered as a burden? This is what we called investment. We invest in those who possess potentials and talents. Government spending on human capital is a must as we can enjoy the long term benefits.

While I laud government's intention in solving the issue of brain drain, but one cannot avoid but to question about the practicality of the solution. Retaining bright students alone would not solve the crux of the problem. We must address bigger problems like providing first class facilities, recruiting more lecturers and producing more research and development. These are core issues which need serious attention from the Ministry.

Solving these structural problems would transform the universities to be more prepared to accept and more importantly nurture our local talents to their maximum potential. In order to achieve this, we need more credible lecturers so that a very productive learning environment is created. This is how it is done in overseas as providing the best support system remains the number one priority.

I am saddened by the fact that we prefer to live in denial. Every year, when we look at our university ranking, we are always at the bottom. Whenever we raise a question how this could happen, we answered by telling that the indicator was irrelevant and thus, it did not fit with our education system. How on Earth an instrument which is globally accepted is not suitable when it is used to a country called Malaysia? We must catch up with other countries as even our own neighbours are already far ahead of us.

Why we need a good university? It is because maybe among those who may be sent to local universities are actually Oxbridge/Ivy League materials. If they live in a right environment, they might create something difference here.

I am not a fan of football. I have no idea about those talented players outside there. There were times when I said player’s name wrongly, stated their club and nationality wrongly. It is hard to swallow a fact that a boy or guy has no interest at all in sports.

I can go around boasting my ability to state or remember all those weird names of any prominent figure or politician. But, don’t you ever dare to ask me anything about sports (especially football). You will get a funny answer from me.

However, whenever big tournament like World Cup comes in, it is the best opportunity to change my ignorant attitude and explore this strange world to the fullest. This is the time when I get to know the stadium’s names, how much money is spent for any particular match and how much final match ticket will cost you.

Well, I am definitely not going to stay all night long to watch every match, but at least, this is the only time I go through sports section in every newspaper. It’s good to know which team possess good prospect of winning so that I can plan which match I want to watch.

Anyway, have fun during this World Cup fever. Enjoy every moment of it. Cheers!

Subsidy oh Subsidy

In the near future, the amount of subsidies given to us will be cut down. The subsidies have been all along considered as a big burden to our government given the current budget deficit. Even now, there are already a few road shows conducted by special agency which aim to explain how by cutting down subsidies, it will boost the economic growth.

In this post, I am not going to touch on how the mechanism works or how it would become a catalyst to the economy.

But, I am more interested to write on government’s approach in explaining this issue to our fellow Malaysians.

The idea behind this subsidies cut is very simple. Government believes if we continue to live with subsidies alone, our country will go bankrupt within nine years. I think it is a very simple message which contains a very strong reminder. Our country will become the next Greece if we continue to adopt the same policy.

Now, let’s get down to the real issue. Do you really think that it is a good approach to convince our people? Subsidy is a special case because it could be a privilege but sometimes it is also a fundamental right for the people. Subsidies in education or health care sector are vital because people have a right for better education and health care services. Thus, by taking away subsidies is just like taking away their fundamental rights.

That is why I believe that this issue should be handled wisely. If you ask me, this is not about giving numbers or providing economics details. This is the issue of managing perception. Feeding our people with a notion that this country will go bankrupt within nine years is somehow difficult to understand. This style is no longer effective. In fact, posing a threat like this would only cause anger among the people.

The approach has to be changed. We must make good reasoning in every decision made. Tell them that other sectors would bring more benefits provided that money from subsidy alone is channelled to the undeveloped industries. Convince them, if the policy is continued, it would lead to inefficiency which is unhealthy to the society.

A risk of getting heart attack is easy to understand because it involves your lives, but a risk of getting bankrupt is a hard one because again subsidy is a special case. It is difficult to leave the comfort life behind when you know there are other alternatives for that particular problem.

Sometimes, when we are too busy planning for others, we tend to forget the ones who stand next to us.

Sometimes, we are overshadowed with the thought that destination matters the most, thus leaving the story of journey for not being told.

Sometimes, a great love fails us, but there are thousand of people who love you more than anything else.

In life, it is all about choices. You make a great decision no matter what the people say about it because you have to do what is right.

We make mistakes and we try to correct them because nobody is perfect.

Yet, many people love to bury their heads and run away from the problem.

When we ask them to solve the crux of the problem, they offer you excuses rather than alternatives.

That is the ugly truth which is universally acknowledged.

Despite having a set of Mathematics questions to finish or a stack of Economics notes need to be revised within two weeks time, I thought it would be better for me to spare some time writing an article regarding a very special day which falls on 16 May- Teacher’s Day.

Teacher’s Day (or Sambutan Hari Guru) is celebrated nationwide on 16 May. This is the day where the teachers and students would throng the school hall and enjoy themselves with activities planned for that special occasion.

I would like to take this opportunity to write about what defines a good teacher. Or what are the elements which constitute the roles of teachers. I am grateful since I was given a chance to see different world at a very young age. Through various experiences that I had encountered, I think there are a few core values which distinguish between a good teacher and those who really need to improve themselves.

I started off my primary education in Sek. Keb. Lubuk Stol, Rantau Panjang Kelantan. This school is located in a rural area near to the border of Kelantan-Thailand, Sungai Golok. Here, in this school, I had a few teachers who played their roles very effective. In my opinion, they really knew what they did with the students. It was not easy actually to teach a bunch of budak kampong to do what they were supposed to do. In fact, some of them came from a very poor family. Due to this difficulty, the process of teaching and learning were not that smooth.

However, what really surprised me was that the teachers and students never looked back. They never used the difficulty as an excuse of not to excel in their studies. The teachers (especially the Headmaster, ha ha I was really close to her son) always told the students that they must work hard and dream big. To make them realise about this was very important. Sometimes, their thoughts were overshadowed with the fact that budak kampong can never seek success and would remain forever in that village.

When I was in Standard Two, I moved to my new school which was Sek. Keb. Seberang Jaya 2, Penang. Well, I had a cultural shock for several reasons. Firstly, that was my first time having friends from other races. Secondly, the environment at my new school was completely different compared to my former school. New place brought new experiences as well. This was the time where I found out my real talent which was public speaking.

Cikgu Maheran Yahya was the one who was responsible in developing my skills in public speaking. She asked me to join Pidato Piala Diraja and I was the second runner up during the state level competition in 2003. She saw my talent. She knew that I can fulfil the expectation. Thus, she took the responsibility to nurture my talent. When I made a visit to my school last year, she came to me and said, “Cikgu simpan semua keratan akhbar pasal pencapaian awak.”

Well that is my teacher for you.

I am very grateful to be blessed with different teachers who guide me in various fields. I would dare to say that my teachers range from various walks of life. Some of them are only at my age, some of them live far away from me and some of them are making difference to the world now.

Teachers are not defined as those who come from the professional arena only. Anyone who provides teaching, guidance, and inspiration are called TEACHERS. They are the ones who make our world a better place to stay.

Lastly, I would never forget the kindness shown by my Physics teacher in MCKK, Miss Grace Margaret. This lady would spend half an hour during her lesson teaching us about values such as honesty and discipline. In fact, she never failed to spend time with some of us asking about things which were not related to academics. I would never forget her good deeds with the debating team as she will always give us good luck card before we went to any competition. It was very rare to see her calling her students as pemalas or budak jahat despite our laziness in finishing our works. I hope now she is doing fine with 600 plus of Malay boys in MCKK.

Towards the end of my writing, I hardly give you an impression of what makes a good teacher. But through my words, I think you got my message very loud and clear.

Interschool Debating Championship 2010

Interschool Debating Championship finally concluded last April. Interschool Debating Championship is the biggest debating carnival in Malaysia which draws the biggest number of participation from various schools in Malaysia such as MRSMs, boarding schools, private schools and religious schools.

This year, MCKK sent two teams comprising of BM and English team. For a record, Malay debating team crashed during quarter final to KISAS while English team lost to KYS during octo final.

In this posting, most of my writings would touch on the journey and not so much on the results. I always thought that it is wiser to discuss about the journey rather than outcomes since it would be the biggest lesson learnt by all of us.

This year, the boys are coached by the junior coaches. Abg Raf has decided to move on and pass the baton to us. After a series of discussion and negotiation, the team has been consolidated by some new faces. Aleng (Class of 2007) took the lead and he is responsible in making sure that everything in the team is in a good state.

This year, the competition was not only a test for the boys to prove their mettle, but it was actually a bigger test for the junior coaches to prove that we can do this job and fulfil our obligation.

The planning for UIA started in early April. All of us were assigned with respective duty and task. We were very lucky this year as Rashad agreed to offer his apartment for us to stay and car to ferry us to UIA. If we were to stay with the boys, most likely we would end up sleeping with each other in a very packed room! It was not really good to do that because the boys required a comfortable place to rest and sleep since big tournament like this is usually very tiring.

Our stay at Rashad’s place was a good one as we took it as a chance to catch up with each other and plan our strategy for every debate. Every day, we woke up early in the morning and rushed to UIA without having a proper breakfast (and sleep). We went back around 12 o’clock midnight after sitting with the boys and discussed about several issues. Ha ha the moment we reached home, all of us were knocked out! I wonder how my senior coaches survived six years ago doing the same routine like what we did (actually it was even more tiring since they had to complete our factsheets and do other stuffs).

This year, the biggest challenge was to manage the issue of expectation. In every debate, I would be bombarded with a few comments which suggested that the team did not reach the real expectation. “Fendy, this is not the MCKK that I knew,” was the same repeated line by every judge.

I was a MCKK debater for five years. For the past five years, I would always tell myself that the real opponent was always my own team. We were judged by our own standard. The concept is simple. The moment you fail to fulfil the expectation, you would be defeated. I know it sounds unfair, but that is the price you have to pay when you are a MCKK debater. However, I always viewed it as a reason for me to do my best. To deliver my very best performance in every debate would be the greatest satisfaction of all.

After every debate, I told the boys to rectify their mistakes. Yes, with not so nice words, we had to do what we have to do. But the boys never failed to muster collective strength and give their best effort to win. At least, when we lost during quarter final, I was told by Aslam (Class of 2007) and Aqwa (Class of 2009) that it was their best debate ever throughout the tournament. If you boys can read this, my advice is simple. Work hard and never stop learning. You have talent and don’t waste it. If you need help, you know where you can find us.

As a conclusion, I really hope that this defeat would inspire the boys and teachers to work hard for the next PPM which will be held in Sekolah Menengah Sains Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. You know what it takes to win.

To Rashad (Class of 2008), Che Nab (Class of 2007), eD (Class of 2007) Aleng, Aslam and Aqwa, thank you very much for being there. I hope you would remember and value our ride in Rashad’s Honda City which was packed by almost 6 people of us in one small car. This would definitely be another learning curve for us. There will be a lot more to come in the future.

To our international correspondents namely Haqa and Bucks, thank you for your help. Bila kitaorang nak dapat postcard nieh?

MCKK Class of 2008

Yeay, finally MCKK Class of 2008 has its own blog. This blog will feature updates on batch’s activities and any related matter to MCKK.

Well, having a blog is one thing, but the biggest challenge is to keep updating it from time to time. So, to those who are empowered to oversee this project (ha ha it is an obligation to certain people actually), please make sure this blog is updated regularly.

Otherwise, it will become another ‘projek gajah putih’ (and I have a new issue to blog. So, to the persons in charge, I hope this posting will become your constant reminder he he)

Singgah Kuale

Last weekend, Aleng, Nab, Ed, Rashad, Aqwa and I went back to koleq to see the debating teams. My last visit was in October when I attended the annual dinner. Thus, it was important for us (or at least me) to catch up with the boys after not seeing them for almost five months.

We went back to koleq for two big reasons. Firstly, we had to do the demo debates in front of the juniors. Secondly, we had to conduct a screen test for the first formers to be recruited into both teams. All of us came to koleq by our own. Rashad arrived first in Kuale followed by me who took train all the way from KL Sentral. Aqwa, Ed and Nab came in the same bus while Aleng took his bus from Bukit Jalil.

Thank God, all went well except for the screen test. The teachers wanted us to do it on another arrangement. They thought it would be better for us to focus on the main team and discuss what to do for the upcoming debating competitions.

The programme started on Friday night with English Debate took place first. Ha ha it was quite difficult for the coaches to actually appear on stage and debate. You must know that they have stopped debating for quite a long time. Nevertheless, it was a good one for both sides. Ms Sherry and Ckg Hisham were there as well to watch the debate. Ckg Umi stayed at home throughout the weekend. We were informed that she was not feeling well since the North Zone competition.

On the next day, it was my turn with Aqwa and Aleng to debate with the present boys. The motion was ‘Wawasan 2010: Kita Belum Bersedia’. The initial plan was to have Aslam as the Prime Minister, but since he had to attend a Speech Day in his school, we replaced his position with Aqwa. We really enjoyed ourselves during the debate. Our job was to bombard them with argument and rebuttals so that they can learn how to counter both things during any debate. The pressure was actually on the debaters since they had juniors who were watching them from the beginning till the end (so, cannot lose face maa).

I would say it was a good training for them since the intense pressure during competition could be overwhelming sometimes. At least, now they know that it is not easy to produce a good debate when you are facing a big crowd. Hence, the boys must try to work harder :-)

On Saturday itself, some of the coaches had to leave early leaving Nab, Ed and Aleng (good combination ekh?) to proceed with other programmes until Sunday.

I would say that this retreat was vital due to several reasons.

First and foremost, this was the time when the whole coaching team regrouped again. We decided to close rank and look forward so that we are able to progress well. Before this, some of us have decided to take the separate ways and do their own things. Some of us have also decided to move on. Thus, for us to regroup again is essential as it would send a clear message that we are all geared up to help the boys.

Secondly, I think to continue what Abg Raf and Co. did for us for the past seven years would mark as a sign of appreciation towards them. Yes, it is not that easy since we have to navigate so many things at one time (plus with the unexpected ones!), but with this band of brothers, I assure you everything should be fine (err that is quite an overstatement I think). After all, we have QUE SERA SERA to be our constant reminder :-)

So, what are we waiting for? Interschool Debating Championship is coming soon. To the boys, please work hard. Pray hard.

To the coaches (and brothers) please work and pray hard as well. A bigger test is waiting for us and let’s start drum up all the support we need in one week time!

Posting yang Boring

Changes in life are inevitable. Our life is like a cycle, thus in order for us to move on from one point to another, we must make sure that the word ‘change’ exists in our life dictionary.

What is so important about changes? Why there would be a group of people who would pursue changes at any cost when they put their life at stake? I also have no exact answer, however I believe with this concept: CHANGES COME TOGETHER WITH ACTIONS.

Changes without actions are mere rhetoric. When one has decided to change, then he must execute that promise (promise is not a right word, I think ‘commitment’ sounds better). While we should adjust a few things to allow changes to take place, we must remain patience for changes to take effect.

I know this posting has no clear message to you, I know it sounds vague, but my point here is simple, in most of the cases, changes are vital for the sake of greater good. The moment we are committed to it, anything under the Sun will move forward and thus, we can expect a better tomorrow ahead us. Sometimes changes are painful, but in order for progress to ensue, we all need it.

Let us take some simple examples how to examine this issue:

If you are fat, you have to eat less and exercise regularly,

If your English is bad, then you have to read, write and speak more in English,

If your country is plagued with recession, then you must come out with better economic policies,

If you are a bad leader, then you must try to appear nice to your subordinates.

I can list down other examples but let us just stick to these examples. It is easy to suggest the solutions, but the big question is, are we willing to changes ourselves?

SPM

Yesterday, the SPM result was announced. In this article, I would not make any analysis on results or anything, but I just want to make note on a few things.

First and foremost, it reminds me about the whole incident which happened during my time in 2008. On the day itself, I had a driving test and therefore I had to delay my journey to Kuala Kangsar. I was sad simply because I missed the moment of getting the result together with my friends and everything associated to it. I entered the staff room alone only to be greeted by my class teacher. She smiled at me and gave me the result. The moment I looked at it, I was speechless due to some reasons. I got a good grade for the difficult subjects but not for the easy ones. Secondly, my grades were not good enough for my scholarship application. Scoring a good grade is important as it will provide you more choices of scholarship. But, in my case, it was not that smooth.

Before I went back, I had a chat with my Physics teacher, Ms Grace. She told me that she was happy with the result on a basis that my trial examination result was really bad. But, I guess that is what a good teacher will do for you. They give you support so that you will be guided by the right conscience and do not despair too long as you really need to move on immediately.

On top of that, I saw some happy faces for those who did well in the exam. Yet, sadness was predominantly featured through the air. I cannot imagine of what went through their minds since they were prefer to keep it to themselves. Some just could not care less but tried to pretend that everything was alright.

Yes, SPM is not the end of everything. Yet, it still provides chances and opportunities to those who score with flying colours. This is the most crucial stage as it will begin to present options for us to choose. If I have my way of going against times, I wish I could travel back to the past. I wish I could change a few things. I wish I would be given more time to study. I wish that I could provide better answers for my questions.

Nevertheless, I could not do any of them.

Anyway, to those who are aiming for scholarships, please reserve this one week only for scholarship application. Do not bother of throwing a party as you can have as many as you want once you have secured one. Please check every detail and go through it carefully. Yes, it may sound like we are trying to teach six years old kid, but we have plenty examples how sometimes our 17 years old kid did some mistakes during the application (well I am speaking from my experience ha ha ha).

To the rest, there are many other chances outside there. Go and find it. Never take too long to feel sad. Remember, when one door is closed, one more will be opened.

To those who did well, congratulations. To those who were not, take sometimes to reflect and slowly move on. You will be fine :-)

The Reliable Source

I am tired with Malaysian newspapers.

But, I am happy with the alternative media.

I am quite sure that everyone believes that newspaper is a vehicle for information and facts. This is the avenue where people can read and grasp information quickly without having to go through television or Internet. It is handy and available at every corner of the world.

While newspaper stays relevant despite a competition by its rivals like Internet, I am afraid that it will slowly sink to nowhere if changes do not take place.

Based on my observation, most of our local newspapers failed to provide the right information to the public. We must understand that most of the people have a better access to newspapers compared to other alternative media. Thus, they have no choice but to choose a newspaper as a platform to know about the world outside.

However, this is the biggest fear of all. Since some of the reports are quite misleading, our readers are also being taken to a wrong side of information. The real fact is vital as it concerns not only the knowledge of our people but most importantly the national security.

I have a few examples on wrong and misleading report on our local newspapers.

Firstly, on oil royalty issue of Kelantan. The Federal government took the initiative by putting one whole page of explanation on a few newspapers. However, a few days later Ku Li made a statement on his blog by reiterating that the facts published were not accurate and false. This is a classic example on how facts are manipulated in order to serve somebody’s interest (I think so). As a reader, I am more inclined towards Ku Li’s statement since we all know that he was a chairman of Petronas and he knew inside out of the whole organisation. Thus, for Federal government to issue another explanation after Ku Li’s would be considered as futile and people are confused due to a spread of different information and explanation.

Secondly, report on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial. To me, it was a ’black day’ for our journalists. I was shocked and almost choked to death simply because our newspapers have turned into a ‘cerita porno terhebat abad ini’. They should be more careful in reporting on issue like this since we want a fair trial for both parties. We must avoid of trying to make media as a place for ‘another trial’ as perception and stigma are easily formed as readers read some biased news.

Well, those examples above are just a few (ha ha I do not want to mention on how newspapers are openly abused in order to incite racial sentiment). Media must act responsibly. It must play its role effectively by allowing a freedom for people to know the correct facts and let the people think on their feet.

The fate of our nation building is purely hinged on how we educate our people. We can no longer being served with cheap stories which are full of racial sentiments, lies and slanders. To our beloved journalists, please serve your duty responsibly. Kalau tak, nanti rating atau jualan will drop banyak gila!

If we were to improve Malaysian education system, the continuous effort should be sustained. The actions taken must be bold enough so that the transformation will occur with less hindrance and problems.

It is so happened that I dropped by in one Sekolah Agama in Permatang Pauh to do a few things (ha ha aku tak mengajar di sana yea). The reality that I saw has put me into a great astonishment. The facilities there are not in a good state. Then, how on earth these future hafiz (penghafaz al-Quran) can study comfortably?

While some people may argue that I do nitpicking, but ones must remember, that an answer to my doubt and question is vital because it will greatly reflect the state of our education system.

My ex-Physics teacher always told me during our long-session chat that the budget on education system should not be less than other sectors. She believes that investment in the education is the most critical one. It is simply because the future of this country is solely determined by our future generation. If an access to education is denied in the first place, then how on earth the talk in town still revolves around producing human capital?

The pertinent issue has not been answered, yet we are brave enough to discuss the non-related issues. I don’t have the right data on this, but reality seems to be more accurate than the current statistics. Look at those schools in Sarawak and Sabah, they need our help. They are part of this country too. We cannot abandon these people otherwise it will be a complete waste of resources to the country. Channel the money now! Build better schools for them. We cannot afford to lose another generation of young, bright and talented people.

I am a bit fussy about this issue because it is a simple logic that we feel better at a better place. Kalau lantai berlubang, bumbung bocor mana mahunya nak belajar! We must start looking at other good examples. Other countries have done it. Why not us? We have various resources (yeah but we are lacking good brains).

After almost a half century, our direction on education is not quite clear. We still stuck at the junction where we don’t even know where to go. On one hand, we celebrate the idea of producing good schools, but we still fail in terms of implementation.

We must focus. We must know our goal. Only then, we work on it.

Scrabble

On 30-31 January 2010, I went to University Malaya for a scrabble competition. It was jointly organized by New Straits Times and First Residential College of University Malaya. So what was the result? Ha ha some details below will enlighten you.

This was my first competition after a long break since 2009. My last competition would be the one in SEMSAH in 2008. So after a while, I thought this year would be a good time for me to get active with some activities after having a six months break.

This competition was divided into two categories: Interschool and Intervarsity category

I had the longest day in my life when I had to endure eight games during my first day. It was really tiring and things became worst when you had to face professional players in every round. Memang cari pasal lah kan- amateur vs pro!

Ha ha I was defeated in most of the games. But, I remained consistent towards my goal as I believe with fighting spirit which will make you immune from anything (padahal aku dah nak give up kot).

So the best part was only when I had the chance to meet my friends who study there: Ungku, Am and Cacat. The whole experience was too poignant for me ha ha.

Lesson learnt: Make sure you have a good vocabulary, practice a lot and know how to read your opponent (I don’t think you will buy my tips pun ha ha)

I will have my revenge next year. I will be back he he.

February Babies

(ha ha aku paham agak ramai yang post pasal birthday, but rest assured, this one will be a bit different ha ha)

I had a wonderful birthday celebration recently. Yes, this year I am 19 years old. How fast the time flies. Birthday celebration never fails to excite me (except for the fact that I am getting older) - this is when I am reminded to sit back and reflect how fortunate I am to be blessed with so much love. Sometimes, when life is pulling us too much, we need to take a break and salvage all the good time that we have and enjoy it with the people that we love.

Dedication One:

Muhammad Luqman Hakim and Muhammad Ali Imran were born in Penang on 1 February 1996. These two kids have provided so much fun and intolerable antics which sometimes could drive me crazy. The age gap between three of us is quite big and therefore the communication could be a bit difficult. I could not understand what they want and they too could not fathom my character. I spent most of my times in koleq and that was the point where I did not give full attention to both of them. I never put myself in their shoes on how they felt as adik yang kecik. I am pretty sure that a love by one elder brother is important to the life of a younger brother.

I have just realised that I have strayed too far from them and I guess this is the time for me to correct the failure. Actually, deep inside my heart, I am very proud to see the progress of my two beloved brothers. Luqman is currently playing hockey for his school at a very young age. I still remembered vividly when my mother told me that how happy he was when he got selected to attend a hockey project which was organized by his school (ha ha no wonder rumah aku dah macam store sukan dia). As for Imran, he does something different compared to the two of us. He joins the school orchestra and already went to do a few performances outside the school.

I feel happy to see my brothers are growing up in a positive environment. It will definitely enrich their knowledge and make them a better person in the future. If you guys can read this, I just want to wish HAPPY BIRTHDAY and I love you both so much.

Dedication Two:

Me, Ucop (Yusoff Adhzan Adnan) and Cacat (Afif Wahdi Ahmad) were born in February. Ucop was born on 4 February 1991, Cacat was on 5 February 1991 and I was on 6 February 1991. Ucop was quite close to me during those days since we studied in the same class. Well, he always turned to me to complain about his exam results and voiced out his fear about SPM. Both of us tried to provide a strong support system to each other whenever the results let us down and inspired each other to strive harder. However, at the end of the day, we both took different ways and went on to pursue our own dreams. Ucop is now in Matriculation Centre of International Islamic University of Malaysia.

Talking about Cacat, our final year in MCKK was the first time where we were put together in the same class. I think Cacat is really one good friend since he can tolerate with my antics and put up everything with me. Furthermore, he helped a lot in my study especially with Chemistry. I got A1 for that subject and until now I owe him for that matter.

To Cacat and Ucop, thank you very much for everything. February babies really rock the world!

Dedication Three:

I would like to say thank you very much for all the wishes, SMSes, cards and gifts given by all of you. You know who you are and you are the best people in the world.

Thank you to Ada, Nisya, and Kam for the chocolates and the cute teddy bear he he.

Thank you very much to Yuhaikal for throwing a surprise party with the rest of the friends. I really had a good time with you.

Thank you to Ayah and Ibu for the wishes. I know both of you wish me all the good things throughout my entire life.

And lastly, thank you very much to Abang Raf, Rashad and Ben. I know the plan went a bit haywire but I had a great celebration ha ha. The effort taken in order to bring the ‘real gift’ was beyond thank you and appreciation ha ha. Kalau macam nie, hari-hari birthday pun takpe he he. Thank you very much and I really appreciate your effort and kindness.

I also understand that this would mean I have a bigger responsibility ahead me. Getting older is not a license for you to have a free hand in doing things. I must act responsibly and work harder in order to achieve my dream. The clock is ticking faster, and therefore I cannot wait for others.

I started this blog in February 2009. Now, it has been a year where it features most of my stories which cover my personal life, my thoughts and any important report. I really love my blog. It’s my first ‘baby’ and I want to take a good care of it. So, how should it be? The answer is I should post more write-ups which means I have to write more articles. It also means that I have to divide my time wisely. Furthermore, I have to sleep less and spend more times on brainstorming the ideas in order to produce good articles.

Dear readers, do you like my articles? I colour my life with the interesting stories and I hope you feel better whenever you read my articles.

It has been a year and it is always good to move forward.

Malaysian Education System

The idea of having the high-performance schools creates a new dimension in Malaysian education system. 20 top schools across the country have been chosen to be declared as Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi (SBT). These schools have managed to fulfil certain requirements set by the ministry before they are accorded with this title. Looking at a bigger picture, we must start to think on how this new approach will benefit our education system thoroughly.

In every country, education system is vital in nurturing and producing the human capitals. Investment in the education system is highly needed because it is a long term investment for the country. This is the only place where we prepare our youngsters to face the world since the world is becoming more competitive. In order to survive these challenges, we must equip our students with vast experiences and knowledge.

Speaking on SBT (Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi), it is another quantum leap for the Ministry of Education. The selected schools have shown their great achievements in various fields. They are not only excelled in academics, but also in the co-curricular activities. In fact, these schools have gone further by building an international relationship with different schools in various countries.

On a positive side, it will act as an impetus for SBTs to maintain their good achievements. A huge sum of money will be given to the schools. It will help the schools in planning their programmes and activities. Theoretically, a grant is given to certain individuals or organizations in order to encourage their productivity and service. In this case, we expect no less from SBTs. They have to rise to the occasion – otherwise, the status might get revoked. Thus, in the long run, given with continuous support by the ministry, we will be able to see a huge improvement in these schools.

Yes, we hope for the best from them. Once the policy is launched, there will be lots of aspirations coming from different parties. However, I think there are a few issues need to be addressed when it comes to this High-Performance School.

Firstly, I actually get confused between the Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi and Sekolah Kluster. Under the Pelan Induk Pembangunan Pendidikan, we already have the Sekolah Kluster which aimed to produce excellent schools by focusing on their respective niche areas (kebitaraan). We had the launching programme for this and we gave them a huge sum of money. The question is simple. What will happen to these schools? We do not even evaluate the results from the Cluster Schools yet, and now we are having another group of schools.

We must also pay attention to the management of the school. These schools are given money and therefore the money should be spent wisely. Every suggested activity must be scrutinized thoroughly. This is important so that we don’t channel the money into an unnecessary spending. It will be a waste of money. The money cannot be spent for the sake of habiskan duit, but it must come with a proper planning so that our students will get the benefits.

Our education system must go through a major overhaul. The transformation is a must so that we are more flexible in facing the new world. The High Performance Schools is another milestone in our system. Therefore, everyone must buck up and double the works.

Cerita Saya: The Screen Test

My involvement in the public speaking started when I was 12 years old. During that time, my teacher asked me to represent the school in the ‘Pidato Piala Diraja’. I had my first taste of winning when I was declared as a second runner up during the state- level competition.

When I entered Malay College Kuala Kangsar, I had no idea about debating. However, I told myself, if I were to occupy my days in school, it must be something that I like and enjoy to do. The truth is I am really bad in sports. I hate football and every single thing which is associated with it (except for the World Cup). I did give a try on certain games, but it did not work on me.

Everything was changed when there were three seniors came to my class. They spoke about MCKK Debating Team. They were looking for the new talents to be recruited into the team. I was interested with the idea of joining the team. I thought that debating can be quite similar to public speaking. The seniors wanted those who were interested to go through a screen test. They gave several topics to us. My topic was ‘Membaca Jambatan Ilmu’ (ke ‘Ilmu Pelita Hidup’?). Before the screen test took place, there were a few incidents happened. Some of us pulled out from from the screen test. Their reasons were different. They felt that they were keen on playing games like football and rugby.

During the screen test, Yuyu (Yuhaikal) was the first one to present his speech. He was good. Even though the style was similar to ‘syarahan agama’, I thought it was quite captivating.

I still can remember vividly when he said, “Pada pagi yang penuh barakah ini...” I told myself, “Waa, vocab yang bagus”.

I was the last participant and I was really nervous. The seniors were looking at us from the canteen and the teachers were there as well. Ha ha that was my first appearance on stage in Kuala Kangsar. Of course I was afraid. Once I finished, I had to answer three questions from three different seniors. The most difficult one came from Sdr. Emo (Class of 2004). The moment I answered the question, I received a big round of applause from the audience. I felt that my answer was pretty decent and relevant based on the impact that I had.

Sdr. Izzat (Class of 2004) had decided to choose five juniors into the team. The lucky ones were Kwang, Ayub, Tapah, Yuyu and me. I was jubilant that I finally I was accepted into the team. It was indeed a memorable moment for me. Therefore, that was the beginning of my journey as a school debater. The seniors were responsible in nurturing our talents. They taught us about what is debating and what it takes to become a good debater. During my early years, I spent most of my times by observing and learning.

I observed the way they debated, the way they presented their argument and their performance. Learning during this stage is vital. Either it is good or bad, that question remains secondary. But you must never stop learning.

Furthermore, I was assigned to do other jobs as well. Sometimes, I was asked to research some facts. The facts revolve around the issue of politics, economics and socials. I had no time to indulge with less important materials. Everything had to be exact and accurate.

Well, that was what had happened during my early years as a debater. I believe that things happened for a reason. There is a reason why I hate football very much. There is an answer why I am terrible in sports. The answer is right in front of me. It is because I was destined to become a debater.

This was pantun was made by my ex-deskamates: Ucop, Ashmal and Cacat. I stumbled upon this and I can’t stop smiling once I read it. It reminds me about my journey as a school debater. Debating is the only thing that I like and enjoy the most. It has shaped my personality, cleared my vision and strengthened my soul. I believe my decision to become a school debater is the best decision that I have made so far in my life.

Talking about this pantun, my friends did the sweetest things without being asked by me. Sometimes, I feel my presence in the debating arena has produced certain impacts to a few people. I have touched their life and I am part of them as well. Furthermore, I reserve some thoughts about what I feel and how I view my five years journey as a debater.

Before this, most of our stories were written by our coach, Abang Raf. He never failed to write every single report or competition which he planned for us. I enjoyed reading his writings because it’s like watching a moving portrait of my life as a debater. After a while, I feel some people outside there want to know the story from my point of view. I believe they have a right to know my side of story. I owe certain explanations and some words of appreciation towards a few people. I better do this now because I am afraid that my memory is slowly fading. All those good old days must be preserved because they are priceless to me.

I want to dedicate this to those who have been with me in this wonderful journey. More write-ups will be posted later J

Selamat Tahun Baru

2009 has finally closed its curtain. As we are entering a new year, many of us tend to reflect or revaluate the achievements or in other words- what we have done throughout the year of 2009. The review is vital as it brings the real essence of good practice in life which is to reflect and see things in the past. The whole process is important so that we can form the right formula on how to live the life with fewer mistakes and more success.

My reflection for 2009 is simple- I wished I could learn more. 2009 was a time when I had my biggest break in my life. Six months at home mean nothing if you do nothing great. I had my regret for not making something good from my six months break.

I enrolled into the college in July. It was too late if I wished to do something different since I took so much time to cope with the new environment which brought the new challenge as well.

Along the way, I made mistakes. Whenever we encounter mistake in life, there is only two options on how you go about it. It is either you keep repeating the same mistake or you correct it. My advice is to rectify the problem and solve it as soon as possible.

This year, I want to correct the mistakes.

I want to keep learning. Learning is fun. It can be anything since the learning spectrum is very wide. Learning the new things is a pre-requisite to success because the world keeps changing. If you don’t have the right knowledge, how can you face the world?

I want to learn more because I want to explore my life to the fullest.

This year will be a great year for us. Yes, it sounds cliché when you start making the new resolution, but it is better to have a new one rather than to stick to the old resolution which is likely to become an unfinished business.

To those who are still present, to those who have decided to move on and to those who are no longer live on this planet, my love and prayers are always with you.

Happy New Year! It will be a splendid time for all of us.

This year, I want to do things differently. In order to do that, I must take the road which is less travelled.

The Play

The play- MAN AND SUPERMAN was successfully staged on 9-11 December 2009 at the HELP Academy Auditorium. This was my first time experience of joining this production. I involved with the production with the primary aim of getting a new knowledge as well as expanding the network by having more new friends.

The production team was the ensemble of various talents and experts. I had the opportunity to witness the whole process of getting the work done from the not so simple ones to the simplest task. As the duties were divided according to the specialised departments, everyone worked hard in order to make this production as a big success.

I was put under the PROPS DEPARTMENT. For your information, everything on the stage which can be seen and touched is considered as a ‘prop’ (saja nak bagi idea sikit)

This time, the work was a little bit lighter compared to the rest because the director had already agreed to have a simple setting on the stage. It means we had fewer things on the stage and therefore we had less works on searching all those things!

Apart from taking this event as a learning curve, I had some great moments as well. Up to this point, I cannot afford to forget the second night of the show since we received a great number of people coming to our show. Plus, it was a memorable one because there were a few parents who came and watched their children acting for the play. They were really supportive.

The congratulatory wishes that we received from the parents and friends were the true testimonies that the play was a good one (but yeah, the comment varies from one party to another- what do you expect? Some said it was good,but some believed that it was OK lah!).

The culture of appreciating talents must be preserved. Our young ones should be allowed to discover their own potentials and finally nurture them in the most productive way.

My special thank you to Rashad Tajuddin and Lyana Tajuddin (aku tak tau eja nama adik kau, kalau salah ampun yea) for making an effort to come and watch the play. Special thanks to Ben and Fido for coming and offering a free ride for a late supper dekat Pelita he he he.

AND to the production team, you guys did a great job.

P/S: Ha ha I must start writing my final conclusion for 2009. 2010 is approaching very soon.

Anyway, I found this picture in my laptop. Ha ha I have no idea how it ended up in my laptop, but it is definitely one of the best pictures if not better that I have so far ha ha ha. The students of 4 Science 2 were having a ‘Kursus Praktikal Haji’ (ha ha aku pakai letak jer nama nieh) led by the real Haji- Haji Latib and Haji Zulkefly.

P/S: Up to this point, I am still wondering why only this class was allowed to do this course (or was it only my class yang tak buat?). Was it because they were the bunch of people who have rupa Haji in the future? The question remains to be answered ha ha ha.

Why? Why? Why?

Putting a love story at blogs has become a device for certain people to express their undying love. When the sweet things become sweeter, I am very sure that some people view it as an approach for someone who is desperately looking for an extra attention.

Why I say so? It is simply because they know that their ‘love’ is not sustainable- in fact the relationship is even shaky and unpredictable. Therefore, all the love stories that you have read at any blogs are not necessarily true. Some of them are faked and entirely full with exaggeration. It is a pity for them to take this way as it tells us that they live in denial. They are afraid to acknowledge the truth because the truth is uglier than they ever thought. The fact that they cannot afford to face the repercussions of accepting the truth signals to us that they are weak and that is why they tend to find an easy way out which is by expanding the degree of their love to the heart the of people (it never works on me actually).

I plead for your consideration to think deeply regarding this opinion. It would be more appropriate for us to appreciate subtle love- when it does not take you to tell the whole world about your love story. Learn to pick up the indirect codes and hints-I think it is funnier and more challenging! Along the way, you will value things more than anything else because you know it is not and will never be an easy one, so why would you share the story with other people when they could never understand the journey that you have been for.

To sum up everything, you do not have to buy my argument about the whole things. However, for not to speak my mind is unwise because I believe what is necessary is never unwise. I am not being sceptical with the whole things, but I am just being realistic.

It has been almost three months here and I am very sure that most of my friends are preoccupied with their own activities. Some choose to gain extra knowledge, while some choose to relax and let the time passes by without doing anything. Ahead us, there are so many things to catch up, so let see whether we are able to go through them or not. I have put myself into a few activities, thus for the time being, I am up for:

COLLEGE PLAY

The play will be staged in early December. I am definitely not in the cast list, but I play my role as a crew under the Props Department (behind the scene lar…). There are other departments as well like Marketing, Front of House and Costume/ Makeup. The people here have different characters as they have a variety of talent and capabilities-thus proving to me that we are all born with a ‘gift’ by God. At the rate we are going, there is not much time left and therefore everyone needs to buck up and do the works. If there is anyone out there who is interested to help us (monetary aid especially), please let me know.

JOHN GRISHAM- The Associate

This is my second book after ‘The Firm’. Even though my lecturer keeps nagging on me about how silly the masterpiece is, but this book is utterly successful in putting my admiration towards JG. I have just realized that my inclination on book is more on suspense and court-drama one, so JG’s items have finally nailed it. I am not an avid reader. I have just started actually so if you found my comments on books which sounded odd or not accurate, please do not put the blame on me. The beginner tends to get excited unnecessarily.

NOVEMBER AND JANUARY (2010)

I am in a panic mode now. Ha ha definitely I need to start study now! My mock exam and A-level exam are going to take place in November and January 2010 respectively.

P/S: I convey my sympathy for the lost of three students in the bridge-collapsed tragedy at SK Kuala Dipang. We need to pay attention to the safety of our youngsters as they had to suffer from mistakes and negligence created by the human beings.

Hikayat Rumah Terbuka

It is a time to catch up with family members and friends. “Open House’ is the effective device to connect people from all over the places. This is the moment when we catch up with old friends, meeting up with boyfriend/girlfriend and of course the family members. It is not so much about the food, but the relationship matters the most. This is the place where all sorts of conversation take place such as “Eh, ko dah makin gemoklah!” or “Eh, baju beli kat mana ekh?” or “Anak sapa yang hilang nieh”. No matter how weird the conversation is, but no one can deny that ‘Open House’ is a place to connect our people.

It is a time to set up the business networking. It acts as a place for a businessman who aims to become a successful man in the future. Since you are meeting up with many people, the business networking should be established within this moment. Thus, do not surprise if you received a stranger at your ‘Open House’ promoting some new products like MLM, Kopi Jantan and others. Please give them a good treatment, after all they are your guests either- the uninvited guests.

It is a time to spread political beliefs. This is a normal habit in our society. There will be a man who keeps talking about what the government should do to improve our economy, what is the best policy for the people and others. They love to discuss the national issues rather than taking a chance to mingle with the people. Such a pity, their place should be in the Parliament, but I guess this people know their place very well and that is why their conversation often ends up at a small event (such as kedai kopi, kenduri-kendara and ‘Open House’).

It is a time to eat! Well, this is the main purpose why ‘Open House’ exists in the first place. People come to this event because they know there will be an array of food waiting for them. For instance, during the ‘Raya Open House’, the Malay delicacies like rendang, ketupat and satay will become the main attraction. The same goes to other festivals like ‘Deepavalli’ when you can enjoy food like muruku, capati and roti canai. The best thing of all is that everything is served for free! Mana nak cari makan free kan?

Thus, that are a few reasons of why our people really love ‘Open House’. This is the only event which features the multi-purpose activities. Christmas is coming soon, so watch out people for another event.

Fendy Raya Lagi!!!

20 SEPTEMBER 2009:

This year, ‘Hari Raya’ came again and I had another chance of celebrating it with my family members and friends on the first Syawal. The routines remained the same as I had to perform the ‘Solat Raya’ together with my father and brothers. My mother purposely stayed at home to prepare something for the guests.

There are only five of us in the family. It is a very small family and thus the celebration is always done in a simple way. I paid a visit to my Tok Wan’s house which is located in the same neighbourhood of mine (it takes 10 minutes to reach there by walking distance). I enjoyed the special dishes made by my grandmother such as rendang, ketupat daun palas and kek buah (ha ha do not go near to the weighing scale on the first Syawal as it drives you crazy once you check your weight!).

However, since my father had to answer the ‘panggilan di perbatasan’, the desire to go back to my hometown in Perak was denied. Thus, with the notion of trying to betray the spirit of Syawal, I took my brothers to the cinema and we ended up watching ‘G-Force’. There is nothing much you can do in town whenever it comes to Hari Raya since everyone is going back to their hometown.

21 SEPTEMBER 2009:

Ha ha finally I managed to be in Perak. This place is definitely the best place to celebrate Hari Raya since all my uncles and aunts will come back and flood the whole house with their children! The gathering was really fantastic as it gave me the opportunity to catch up with my cousins.

22 SEPTEMBER 2009:

I went back again to Penang. I did some of my works and read a book. The highlight of the event will take place on the next day- the big family members from Perak are coming to my house!

23 SEPTEMBER 2009:

The gathering went smoothly. Once everything was finished, the whole family moved to Kulim, Kedah as a part of their plan to visit my Ateh. She is pregnant now and expected to deliver very soon. She was touched by our visit since she had to celebrate Hari Raya for the first time with her husband’s family in Kedah. We went back in separate ways and that was the conclusion for this day.

24 SEPTEMBER 2009:

I attended Izzat’s Open House in Kulim, Kedah (Sdr Izzat-Class of 2004). I drove my car and picked up Yuyu and Aslam along the way with a sole purpose of celebrating Hari Raya with Izzat for the first time. So, how was everything? Well, the food was really nice (thing to note: Aslam tambah dua kali melebihi Yuyu yea), Mak Izat was really kind compared to Izzat who was bragging on the point that he was very helpful sebab tolong angkat mangkuk and lauk-pauk he he he.

The gathering again was really special especially for Aslam as he met his prefect for the first time after six years- Sdr Fakhruddin (Class of 2004). Inshallah, we will come again to your house next year. Thank you very much.

25 SEPTEMBER 2009:

I had three open houses in one day (giler ke apa!!!)

26 SEPTEMBER 2009:

I went back to Kuala Lumpur.

P/S:

This is the brief summary about what I did during the last Hari Raya. Even though the age is catching up, the privilege is given to me to celebrate Hari Raya exactly like the old days when I was still a kid.

Thus, I am taking this opportunity to wish all of you SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI- MAAF ZAHIR DAN BATIN. I hope you too had a good time during the Hari Raya.

Salam Satu Malaysia,

Saya Fendy Hasni dengan ini ingin menjalankan tugas tidak rasmi sebagai wartawan bebas bagi memberikan laporan menyeluruh dan cukup komprehensif mengenai pilihan raya kecil Dun N11 Permatang Pasir. Berikut merupakan pemerhatian saya (actually tengok dekat TV sahaja, but presumably, I know everything since Permatang Pasir is in the constituent of Permatang Pauh).

Fakta dan trivia:

1. Permatang Pauh telah menjadi kawasan hangat (hot spot) untuk sebarang pilihanraya. Setelah pilihanraya kecil berlaku di Parlimen Permatang Pauh dan Penanti, kini Permatang Pasir pula menjadi medan pilihan raya kecil yang baru. Parlimen Permatang Pauh mempunyai tiga kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri iaitu Permatang Pasir, Penanti dan Seberang Jaya (yes, I live in this place). Setakat ini DUN Seberang Jaya sahaja yang tidak mengalami sebarang pilihanraya kecil namun Adun kawasan ini- YB Arif Shah Omar Shah turut tidak terkecuali daripada fenomena piliharaya kecil apabila telah dijadikan sebagai calon untuk menentang pemimpin de facto PKR- Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ketika pilihanraya kecil Parlimen Permatang Pauh pada tahun 2008.

2. Bendahari Koperasi Pekebun Getah Pulau Pinang (or popularly known as Cikgu Umar) yang telah muncul di TV3 sebenarnya Pengerusi Masjid Kariah Taman Sembilang-tempat saya tinggal. Masjid ini hanyalah tiga minit perjalanan kaki dari rumah saya namun saya sentiasa masbuk ketika solat Maghrib kerana sentiasa balik lewat petang kerana pergi ber'jogging' di sebuah tempat rekreasi yang agak lah jauh. Saya bertanya kepada ayah saya masih adakah kebun getah di Pulau Pinang, ayah saya menjawab 'Ya'. Menurut ayah saya yang merupakan anak jati Pulau Pinang sememangya ada kebun getah di Pulau Pinang iaitu sekitar kawasan Tasik Gelugor. Al maklumlah, memandangkan saya membesar di Kelantan, Pulau Pinang dan zaman remaja muda mudi saya dihabiskan di pekan Kuala Kangsar, pengetahun geografi tempat tinggal saya tidak begitu cemerlang.

3. Banyak bendera dinaikkan ketika pilihanraya kecil ini. Suasana sangat meriah. Namun koresponden kami menjangkakan kegiatan kempen ketika Ramadhan mungkin agak kendur kerana ketika itu semua sudah berpuasa. Mungkin tenaga agak kurang ketika ini.Malah pasti ramai akan mula menumpukan perhatian kepada perniagaan kuih raya seperti biskut 'ALMOND LONDON', bikin bubur lambuk, bazaar Ramadhan dan sebagainya. Malah waktu malam pula dihabiskan untuk bersolat terawih. Maka, sekiranya ada yang nampak bertenaga satu macam, mungkin dia tidak berpuasa.

4. Permintaan topeng muka dijangkakan akan meningkat dengan mendadak ketika hari pengundian. Malah, harganya mungkin naik melambung tinggi.

5.Minta maaf, tiada gambar akan di'upload'kan sebab saya masih belum sempat ke Permatang Pasir kerana sedang sibuk menghabiskan kerja rumah, membaca novel dan sebagainya. Mungkin kerana terlalu banyak 'by election'- saya sudah lali.

6. Ramai juga pak cik dan mak cik di kawasan kejiranan saya telah melibatkan diri dalam 'machinery'. Hal ini dapat dilihat apabila ramai yang bergegas keluar dari masjid sebaik selesai solat Maghrib bagi membantu jentera atau pun pergi mendengar ceramah.Habis lengang masjid.

Baiklah, itu sahaja laporan saya setakat ini. Teruskan bersama saya untuk liputan 24 jam. Teruskan membaca blog ini, berita segenap segi.

Studying in a new place really gives me a time to reflect about myself. How I am doing so far? Can I cope with the studies and the tight schedule? For the past twenty days, I am doing my best to adjust a few things here and there.

English Literature:
I love this class so much. My heart always laughs whenever I enter it. My lecturer always reminds me that this subject will make me as a better person. It teaches people to see things evolve from different perspective of life. How story and poem are created in a very creative manner so that only a bright person can read the hidden messages lie behind the plots and stanzas. For almost three weeks, I am struggling with this subject- it is not so much about me cannot understand the words and diction, but it is tough enough for me to decipher the subtle hints of the poems and stories. Maybe it is my nature that I like straight forward things which result me having some difficulties with this subject. Some of my friends from this class are really have a good command in language (well, some of them were in UK since they were young!) and very familiar with all sorts of reading materials. As a beginner (I start this from scratch!), it will definitely erodes my confidence level in the class. Sometimes, it is very perplexing! But, that are the things that you must overcome if you are a beginner, isn’t it? I have the passion to learn given the hurdles that I have. You work better under pressure and that are the tricks that I have mastered all along since I was in the school. I need to read a lot. Yes, a lot. I want to be an avid reader!

My Life:
I have been here for almost twenty days and what I did was to observe people's life in this so called 'Bandaraya Besar'. The system or the culture in this city is vividly translated into a piece of real illustration where people are so busy and they are always in a rush for something. Sometimes, I try to contemplate and I realize that the life now is moving very fast. At the risk of being drowned by this mess, I must not move on very quickly. I must always take a break and reflect the things that I had in the past because once we are stuck in this cycle, we abandon things that we used to enjoy and that is the saddest part because you terminate all the good things that you have just because you are in a hurry. I must admit that I am standing at the verge of this turmoil, hence I really count my blessing to have someone who will always remind me about the life for me to explore and feel. Yes, it is a cycle of life but we should never forget that God grants us with wisdom and psyche so that we can always decide a right decision for ourselves.

HELP University College

After having a seven months of rest at home, now I am back to the school. It is a different setting as I meet new friends, new teachers and new environment. Currently I am a JPA scholar who doing an A-Level Programme at HELP University College, Pusat Bandar Damsansara. It is a two years programme and I take four subjects which are Economics, Mathematics, Law, and English Literature (yes, I need to learn about Othello after this ha ha).

This is my first week here and a lot of things to be discovered later. I really hope that I can take on this thing well and learn many new stuffs. This is so new to me but I guess I will have fun along with other friends.

Oh yeah, Yuyu/Haikal (Yuhaikal-Class of 2008) is staying at the same building with me. Ha ha I tell you that Haikal now can speak Japanese Language quite well and much better compared to some of my friends who took up this subject at koleq. His 'sensei' addresses him as 'Ikaru'- nama dia dalam bahasa Jepun lar ha ha. Haikal now seems struggling with his study as he needs to buck up his language so that he can get a good university in Japan. Things have changed so much. Rashad is in Uitm doing the CAT Programme, Fido is studying at Taylor College, and Zuli will be entering KYUEM very soon. We opted for the different journey and now we are living in a different world. In the past, we used to have lunch and dinner together, but now things are not the same anymore. We have move on for something else on this planet. But this is how the world works and the same story will be written in the years to come.

Movie...

The last time aku tengok movie yang betul-betul best ialah Lord of The Ring: Return of The King. Tiga jam dalam panggung. Memang aku betul-betul melekat dekat seat sebab cerita terlalu dahsyat. Plot bagus, CGI excellent, the casts were really good- a nearly perfect movie. Ha ha memang seronok gila sebab asyik perang saja dalam waktu tiga jam tuh. Scene Legolas dengan anak panahnya, King Aragorn yang baru menjadi real king antara favourite scenes aku untuk that movie.

So, setelah melakukan soul searching selama bertahun-tahun untuk mencari filem yang mampu menyamai filem tersebut akhirnya berjaya juga. Cerita itu ialah Transformer: Revenge of The Fallen. Duration of the movie lebih kurang 2 jam setengah. Bom sana, bom sini. Dah macam apa entah. Robot dah makin banyak. Tapi yang paling best, cerita ini semakin kelakar! Ha ha memang lough out loud. It is difficult to find a good movie. Jalan cerita bagus, dan yang paling penting sarat dengan nilai-nilai murni (haha aku tetap cuba baca hidden message and value in this movie).

10 things about PPM 2009

1. PPM 2009 was held in Sekolah Seri Puteri. Koleq sent three teams namely Malay Debating Team, English Debating Team and MC Cagers.

2. Malay Debating Team- Mas, Aqwa, Halim, and Nash. English Debating Team- Pojan, Shaher, Adam and Mia.

3. Malay Debating Team lost to SEMASHUR during the quarter final. The motion was ‘Integriti Penentu Kemakmuran dan Keharmonian Negara’. We were the opposition. I need somebody from Technical Committee to give a clarification regarding the selection of the motions. The motion should be very fair to both sides. Now, we can’t see the real talents to debate simply because their chance was denied by a silly motion. They owe me some answers.

4. English Debating Team did not manage to break to the knock-out round. They had to face an unexpected lost when they did their job very well. Their arguments were matured, the rebuttals were totally sharp and killed every opponent’s points, yet we still lost. Again, I need some answers for this thing. Why, why, and why?

5. The coaches who made it to SSP – Abg Raf, Rashad, Ed and me. The approach was slightly different since our boys did not spend their times on writing their texts anymore. We took sometimes to explain a few issues to the boys. (macam biasa Abg Raf akan tolong explain despite cakap nak tido, penat dan sebagainya)

6. Losing is painful. The boys cried when they failed to meet their goals. Acting as a coach, we need to be very strong and look calm in every minute (padahal dalam hati Tuhan saja yang tau). Thus, what we did was to inspire the boys, to tell them it was ok, and they were the real winners in our eyes. We will pick up the pieces here and there and build everything again from scratch.

7. However, I took some comfort looking at the boys. They looked so affected by the losing. Mas kept asking me about his performance- about what should he do in the near future. Mas looked very hungry for everything and no doubt that in the near future, he will be a good debater. Adam was very sad too. In fact, he wished he could burn down the school as he thought that Cyberjaya was not the ‘bumi bertuah’ for him. Shahir and Pojan sent a very long sms telling us that they will work harder for the coming competition. Sometimes, I feel that this is the biggest prize. The boys never give up and will always fly high and they will touch the sky. There are no boundaries in life- as long as we want it, we will strive for it. There is no shortcut in life, and thus I hope the boys know what to do in order to meet their dreams and goals.

8. Apart from that, I just realise that our boys really close to each other. I just can’t stop laughing when they started to crack jokes. They keep secrets about each other and those who are trying to poke fun on someone, insan itu akan diugut dengan rahsia masing-masing. What kind of secrets that they keep from us? Someone, please break the chain! Apart from Chewy and Badak, the coaches really need to know about other secrets.

9. The boys still fail to decode the most legendary code during PPM 2009- GB!

10. Err lupa nak bagitau. Salah seorang daripada Jurulatih Pasukan Bahas MCKK, Sdr Zulikhwan telah diberikan Anugerah Full Colors di Putrajaya International Convention Centre ketika PPM 2009 atas kejayaan cemerlang dalam pencapaian akademik, kokurikulum dan sahsiah. Tahniah diucapkan.

Dear my readers, I must say sorry to all of you for not updating my blog for quite a while. I need to settle a few things and only now I got time to write something. This post is about 'Rombongan Melawat Puyoh 2009'.

It all started when I met Acap Husin at Sunway Carnival Mall. Waktu tu, I tengok Wolverine. Best giler movie tuh. I will never forget all the fighting scenes. Memang gempak giler!

Anyway, Acap told me that Lutfi and Zulafiq baru sampai dari KL. Then, I hanged out with Lutfi and Zulafiq kat Restoran Kasim Mustafa. Ha ha memang rasa seronok sangat dapat jumpa Lutfi and Zulafiq yang tak habis-habis dengan cerita PLKN Kem Chenderiang dekat dengan Cameron Highland. Haha dia still duk defend the reason why lauk kat kem dia sedap adalah kerana sayur diambil terus dari ladang sayur Cameron Highland. Kononnya sayur-sayur segar. Suka hati deme lar Zulafiq oi...

Hari ini (11 Mei 2009) Acap ajak aku ikut diorang pergi melawat Puyoh yang mendaftar di Matriks Pulau Pinang. Aku terus setuju and Acap picked me up kat rumah. Maka, bermulalah kembara lima sahabat berkelana mencari Matriks P. Pinang. Setelah sampai, kami terus mencari Puyoh di Blok C1. Terkejut besar Puyoh bila jumpa kitaorang ramai-ramai. Mak dan ayah dia pun macam terkejut jugaklah bila ada satu kumpulan datang bising-bising kat bilik anak dia. Then, kitaorang pergi minum kat kantin.

Puyoh lantas membuka 'cerita of the year' bahawa Sdr Aminrullah ( atau lebih popular dengan nama glamour- Koream) turut menyambung pengajian di situ. Kitaorang cuba nak cari beliau, namun alam persekitaran di situ sangatlah luas terbentang. So, semua sibuk nak cari no phone Sdr Aminrullah. Malangnya, sikap tidak peduli kami menyebabkan seorang pun tidak menyimpan no phone beliau termasuklah saya atas kapasiti jawatan Ketua Pengarang Majalah ( dalam majalah sekolah ada no phone semua pelajar tingkatan lima). Maka tidak kesampaian hasrat kami untuk 'say hi' kepadanya. Waktu nak balik, haha Puyoh nampak sangat sebak dan macam nak nangis. Mungkin dia terharu kami hadir memberi sokongan moral kepada beliau termasuklah menasihatinya untuk bertanding merebut jawatan tertinggi perwakilan pelajar di matriks tersebut. Semoga berjaya Puyoh. Akhirnya semua balik dan terus menuju ke Sunway Carnival Mall kerana Sdr Ungku akan datang dari Sungai Petani untuk 'hang out' bersama kami pula. Sementara nak tunggu Ungku, keluarlah cerita pasal Ustaz Helmi, Mastor bin Hemdi, dan Aizat Aizudin. Untuk pengetahuan korang, rasanya Aizat satu-satunya budak batch 0408 yang dapat menyambung pengajian Diploma Pengajian Seni dan Muzik di Uitm Shah Alam. Haha Syafinaz Selamat lar yang jadi lecturer ko. Apa pun jangan terkejutlah yea if Aizat jadi pengkritik tetap One In A Miliion pada masa depan. Jadi sapa yang nak masuk OIAM, kabel orang dalam sudah tersedia.

Kitaorang lepak kat kedai mamak dan makan lunch sama-sama bila Ungku dah sampai. Memang seronok giler lar dapat jumpa diorang balik. Kesian kat Ungku. Sanggup datang dari SP walaupun basah kuyup kat highway. Thank you Ungku!

Kesimpulannya, I had a great time with them. Rasa seronok sangat dapat jumpa balik and buat mini reunion kat sini. Banyak cerita dikongsi bersama. Thank you guys!
